The grandson of Italy's fascist dictator Benito Mussolini has requested the former leader's remains be exhumed to find out how he really died.

Luciano Randazzo, a lawyer acting on behalf of Guido Mussolini, lodged a request to a court in Como, northern Italy, to carry out a post-mortem.

Mussolini and mistress Clara Petacci were captured by partisans on 26 April 1945 near Como and shot two days later.

But there are doubts over the identity of Mussolini's executioner.

Walter Audisio, also known as Colonel Valerio, was said to have killed Mussolini after being given orders to do so.-snip-
