Sadly, a combination of rampant stupidity in the nation, and a corporate media will result in only a small gain in Democrats in the House and especially the Senate if any gain at all. The country as a whole is not desperate enough, and fear trumps logic. Our fine fellow citizens who would vote Democratic are not desperate enough, although reading here, one would expect a dustbowl family in tatters pulling a wagon down 5th Avenue.
The Plame thing? Nothing. The lies? Nothing.
The country is poised for a change, but the hurt is not enough. Sadistic and cruel as the republicans are, they are now dismantling themselves, but still have enough in them to scare the beJesus out of the average voter sitting on a fence.
And it is rather easy for them. Candidates like the ambigiously mega-millionaire Pederson here in Arizona, that has no view, nor will he is willing to offer any, from immigration, to God forbid say anything about the war. He should be a shoe-in, as averyone in Arizona loves a developer with a soul, albeit one that does not stop him from hiring the some of the most right-wing consultants for his projects this side of Karl Rove. But again, this is Arizona.
Things are very differnt now in this cycle of our country going from right to left. Images mean nothing, lies totaling in the miles, mean nothing. People are stil too busy with everyday living to really be affected, gas prices are magically dropping like a rock, and that seemed to be the only thing that hit them directly.
The economy will continue to tank, and the home market will pull many down with it, as the collapse is in full swing here in Arizona. By November it will be circling the drain.
Only when things get really bad, do the changes occur. Watching any news now is like watching televsion during the Vietnam War; Bewitched and the Beverly Hilbilies, with no mention of any war. Yes there is more news, but none is the truth. Everyone thinks their neighbor is doing fine, when actually everyone is treading water.
It's not going to be a big change. Don't get your hopes up.
After the economy goes into full tanking in late November, then there will be another round of buyers remorse by the fence sitting voters, as they were scared to vote for change, and why should they? The DLC clones like Pederson play it safe to loose.
