5. after I read the news last night on the internets

I came over to DU to see whether there was a single "hey, guess what" thread about it. Of all the deaths I would have expected to have caused such a ruckus, Steve Irwin's would have been about 1,743rd on my list.

Some people apparently feel that the guy was not enough of an environmentalist... okay, fine, maybe, I don't know, but whether he made the right choices in pursuing that particular ideal, he wasn't deliberately anti-environment. He was not a bad guy. I've read that he donated his profits from his shows to environmental causes--if true (and even if not, because he was certainly enthusiastic about sharing his love of animals), his intentions were wholly good. Unlike the intentions of those we should be talking about.

I simply do not understand why people who do not happen to lament his passing feel so strongly about inflicting their opinions on those who do, whether they regret his death on a purely human level or because they liked him and his work. It's not very kind.
