New Fox News Poll Offers Little To Spin, But One Thing Stands Out
The Aug. 29-30 Fox News Channel/Opinion Dynamics poll clearly shows that the mood of the country heavily swings toward the Democrats -- a positive sign as Congressional elections near.

But is it all good news? I'm a little worried about the high number of Independents who remain undecided.

1. I'm not worried about undecideds so much
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 10:19 AM by Vash the Stampede
Undecideds tend to go with the prevailing attitude, and even more usually wind up supporting whom they think is going to be the winner. In this case, both scenarios favor Democrats.

Even more important, in my opinion, is the mood of right-wingers. They might still support their team, but are they feeling excited enough to stand 2 hours in the rain to do it? Not likely. Not even the Republican GOTV machine can change enough minds to make a difference there.

On edit: I am NOT saying we have the election won and that we should stop working. Not by a long shot. 6 feet ain't gonna be deep enough to bury this monster. We best put the Republicans 12 feet deep.

4. agreed
... with your "on edit."

The difference between regaining the House and not (and possibly the Senate, or not) is how those Indpendents vote. Do they swing heavily to the Dems, or not? Do they come out in droves, or not?

This is especially important in places like Connecticut (Senate and two House races with incumbent Republicans), and other "purple" states.

3. unnamed polls favoring Democrats just mean Repigs need attack ads
and they will get them.

Consider two separate questions:

Do you favor Democrats, or Republicans?

and

Candidate X is a Christian, supports traditional American values, and thinks that the best way to solve America's problems is to put a larger emphasis on family and the associated values.
Candidate Y is a godless, America-hating, terrorist supporting traitor who worries more about special rights for terrorists, homosexuals, and illegal immigrants than he does about the real Americans like you and me.

Who are you more likely to support?

They are very differnt polls, and its usually why people end up voting in Repigs, even though they support Democrats in "unnamed Democrat" polls.
