We're at our best when things are at their worst.

I'm referring to DU, but also the American citizens. Although greatly disappointed lately by our lack of fighting spirit, I still hold out faith that given the right information and circumstances, we will act in response to the every growning tyranny and madness.

Things are fairly comfortable now for most folks, but many more are aware of bush and the crazies than they were before, and things have not really hit the fan yet, not as bad as they could be, just give the bush's a little more time.

Then when things get really out of hand, and appear to be at their worst, we will be at our best.

I'm hanging it all out there on the limb of optimism, something I rarely do.

That deer scene is magical. I watched that movie with my family so many times when it came out on video, we still have about half of the lines memorized...and pieces come out at the oddest times when the family is together..."road block, I guess" is one of the most common. :)

When I saw it in the movie theater, at the end of the movie everyone in the audience just sat in their seats quietly for a few minutes before everyone started talking and moving and leaving, just a hush before back to the real world.

Then I would say that most of the DUers here have a problem with creating the worst of a situation. Of course, then the make the best of it. However, I will venture to agree with you. . . but always be optimistic because a positive approach is a fresh one everytime.

3. Many don't know what to do

I'm talking about those who are in the depths of financial ruin.no jobs,no healthcare,plainly just trying to get their heads above water. Every day is a struggle just to survive. Many have little time to keep up with current events even when they know much of their trouble revolves around the White House. They are a pefect place to start for they have already realized the tax cuts were not for them. The jobs that are bantered around on talk shows don't exist in their world and they know people are hungry for they have seen a soup kitchen or food pantry a time or two. They need to knwo exactly what small steps they can do inbetween their daily struggles to keep a roof over their head.
Many of the haves are not going to care until they lose what they have. This "what me,worry?" attitude represented a great magazine but in real life when the haves run the country the have nots never get to the have stage. If they had their way we would be run with the "company store" management. We would work for the MAN,get a piddly wage from the MAN,and in turn give it all back to the MAN so we could live under a roof and have a bowl of soup at night.

6. Well, it's like NYC...

It has a reputation for being cold and hard (which I personally don't totally agree with), but no one can deny that New Yorkers don't know how to pull together when the shit hits the fan.

9-11 was a perfect example of that, and unfortunately, many of those people have health problems to show for it. Another example being the massive blackout in 2003 (affecting far more than NYC). Despite the blackout (and not knowing what it was caused by) and temps in the 90s, there was practically no looting and everyone just helped each other out.

I personally like to hope that the rest of the country has their shit together as well as NYC does.
