4. Let me rephrase:
"Why? Is Limbaugh on?" I already saw that the answer is yes.

15. Equally valid questions would be
What (drug) is Limbaugh on?
What (drug) is Limbaugh on this week?
Etc.

6. Well, it's not like Rush has any other platform
So an unrebutted segment on one of the big three networks' evening news program is just what Rush needs to get his message out. I mean, it's not like he can be heard any other way, is it? I had the same reaction when the local ABC affiliate had Lars Fuckhead Larson on for a while with a "commentary" on their evening news. Three hours a day, five days a week isn't enough? He's got to have his own evening news segment to give us the benefit of his wisdom that he can't quite cram into his daily radio show?

What manner of shit be this?

7. Well, for what it's worth, this will only happen once. Every day there'll
be a new person — and some will be liberal.

11. Once in the first week, at least
But it's the same objection I have to newspapers allowing their editorial pages to run letters from elected officials or other media creatures. If a newspaper or a network is going to provide some of its precious real estate to a guest commentator (whether it's a letter to the editor, an op-ed piece, or a commentary segment), there is no reason at all to give that space or time over to someone who has ample opportunity on his own to get his message out. And I'll include elected officials, high government appointees, anyone with his own show, and anyone who is the head of a large corporation in that statement.

The public airwaves belong to the public; CBS's network news is part of a public trust. It's a betrayal of that trust to put an ideologue like Rush Limbaugh on.

20. OMG!
I was going to give Couric the benefit of the doubt, not judge until I watch and see how it stacks up against the other two networks. Knowing that Limpballs will disgrace the nightly news with his cyst dragging butt makes me wanna :puke:

I will be watching tonight in order to fire off an immediate vitriolic attack on the pussbag...plus to let CBS know that if they have his ilk on their news show on a regular basis, I will no long watch.

5. Maybe she can give a military deserter 90 seconds
to wax philosophical about the importance of privacy. Reckon we can find one? A nice seque after the cowardly fat boys' attempt to be significant. He's failed on TV before. In fact he's failed at everything his whole life except for radio hate and disinformation.

10. Contact CBS - phone and e-mail address included
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 03:11 PM by Mabus
I did.

Contact page: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1998/08/01/eveningnews/main15218.shtml

PHONE: (212) 975-3247 Fill up their box with complaints. I called and said if this is where the CBS News is heading with Katie Couric than I will no longer be watching. I also said that I would post this on DemocraticUnderground.com and ask others to call. Finally, I told them that if this type of programming continued that I would look into filing a complaint with the FCC and help in organizing a boycott of their sponsors. Finally, I informed them that I would send an follow-up e-mail to them at evening@cbsnews.com (per their contact page) and urge others to do the same.

on edit: I also told them that I thought Rush Limbaugh was inappropriate as a commentator. I cited his drug addiction (for which he is still under court ordered treatment and supervision), his past legal problems, his racist remarks as a sportcaster that got him canned from ESPN and the fact that he is partisan political pundit and that he would be making a commentary so close to the mid-term elections.

23. From the FCC website
I chose my words carefully. I said "I told them that if this type of programming continued that I would look into filing a complaint with the FCC" because if Limbaugh starts ragging on the Democrats in a way the impugns their honesty, character, integrity as an identified group. If we want to take back the media we have to use what tools are available for us to use.

Access to Station Facilities. Stations are not required to broadcast everything that is offered or suggested to them. Except as required by the Communications Act and our rules concerning personal attacks, political editorials, and the use of stations by candidates for public office (which are discussed later in this manual), stations have no obligation to have any particular person participate in a broadcast or to present that person's remarks. Further, no federal law or rule requires stations to broadcast "public service announcements" of any kind.

***

Personal Attacks. Personal attacks occur when, during the presentation of views on a controversial issue of public importance, someone attacks the honesty, character, integrity, or like personal qualities of an identified person or group. No more than a week after a personal attack, the station must transmit the following three things to the person or group attacked: (1) notification of the date, time, and identification of the broadcast; (2) a tape, script or accurate summary of the attack; and (3) an offer of a reasonable opportunity to respond on the air.

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/decdoc/public_and_broadcasting.html#POLITICALBC

***
Some Activities That Are Not Regulated by the FCC. We license individual stations only. We do not license TV or radio networks (such as CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, etc.), except as owners of particular stations.

***

COMMENTS OR COMPLAINTS ABOUT A STATION

Comments to Stations and Networks. We encourage you to write directly to station management and network officials to comment on broadcast service. These are the people who are responsible for selecting the station's programs and announcements. Letters to stations and networks keep them informed about audience needs and interests, as well as on public opinion on specific material. Individuals and groups can often resolve problems with stations at the local level.
