2. Part of Rove's "October Surprise"
They are going to say that they are "close" to finding him when they don't have a clue.

5. They have no desire to catch Usama. It would not serve them in any way
He could be staying at the Hay Adams, enjoying the good life right under their noses, and he would not be touched. Think of the money he's made for the Military Industrial Cabal, not to mention the extra cash in his family's coffers. He's the bogeyman.

They're never going after him. It's a symbiotic relationship.

North, South, East, and West of Kabul. I think Killer Rumsfeld said a similar thing about WMD except he knew they were located North, South, East, and West of Tikrit

14. Negroponte on NPR
a smooth, lite interview, tried to give the impression that behind the scenes the Intel is doing really great. Osama is somewhere in those badlands between Pakistan(our ally in the war against terror) and Afghanistan(a recent acquiry).

Pakistan makes a show of sending out a force that beats up some local troublemakers and possibly fake an Osama takedown. This sour drama is even too much and even that effort largely fails, bogged down and exposed as a non-Osama event.

So the deal in Pakistan is "neutrality". No progress on clampoing down on extremsits, no change in the loyalty ofd the army, mum's the word on their nuke program so long as they stop spreading via government channels, absolutely no responsibility for new terrorists launched from their soil.

In the search for Hussein and El Zorro we found them. Locals helped us even in the mess that Iraq is. In their own country, Pakistan can't really even try, the search for Osama on their part deader than our own Offfical Hunt. If Osama was caught rifling papers in the presidential suite, people would look the other way and imprison any reporters who found out.

The real state of affairs in pakistan is off limits for criticism, period, no matter what the papaers report about "London Bombers" or the Taliban(which are more populist clients of Pakistan than Shiite militias are supported by Iran). Pakistan is a major reason why Afghanistan itself is ignored because the whole area is more logical a threat than Iran- and we can't have that.

If Osama is even alive of course. No one can seem to make up their minds if he is more useful as bogeyman or trophy head. Since ther is some embarassment at failing to capture or kill the bogeyman, logic seems to support his unverifiable earlier demise beneath tons of rock.

But there are two uses alone that remain. the geopolitical concerns that make the silent rterror partner Pakistan a reliable producer of threats we won't counter. Osama the living legend serves the terrorists and our fear campaign. Pakistan is under black wraps so as not to immediately move to the head of the list over Iran. The most credible threat of nuclear war remains Pakistan moving even a tinge more into the hardliner position or simply having a perennial blowout with India because of the terrorist production assembly line we choose to ingore.

15. He has a sense because he knows that they
have his body on ice somewhere. There is no need to go after him because they have him. They just aren't telling us so they can put out those phoney tapes every now and then of Osama speaking. This is my gut feeling.
