Katie and the inappropriate news.
I watched till the new oil field story. There was a decent story about the Taleban by Lara Logan. An interview with Tom Friedman about his opinion of the Taleban and the War on Terror, followed by one sentence about a story that I can't even remember and maybe two sentences about a CEO being replaced by another CEO. After the break we went on to a story about an oil field. Somewhere along the way a picture of the website featuring the story about film footage which was taken of Irwin's death (God, please don't let them be showing it) and advice to check their website for more extensive news stories. That's about the time I turned it over to PBS. Just before the end, I flipped back and caught Steve Hartman doing one of his human interest stories. It appears that I missed someone else's analysis of some other story.

I'm going with PBS from now on. At this point, its the best I can get.

3. About 5 minutes worth of news swaddled and smothered
in 25 minutes of commentary by pundits and personalities and other fluff.

9. I was going to but
the first few times I tuned in there were commericals on so I went back to shuffling between channels. By the time I remembered she was on tonight the show was over.

4. You missed the part where she said
that Rush Limbaugh would be delivering his opinion piece on Thursday.

7. Oh, and lest we forget,
*we* the viewers get to choose Katie's sign-off tagline!!! And this relates to real news how, exactly?

How about, "well it was fun while it lasted. I'm Katie Couric in New York."

10. Dumbed down, dull, and largely information-free
Little on Iraq, the growing deficit and debt, growing American anger at the GOP and most incumbents, polls showing a Democratic retaking of the House... or the ABC 9-11 "Crock-u-mentary" that's been engineered by right-wingers.

12. I won't watch...
...I've watched the CBS evening news since Walter Cronkite has been on (yep, I'm that old). I quit watching it the day I found out that Katie was replacing Bob Shieffer. Give me Countdown with Keith Olbermann and I'll be well informed. Better informed than Katie's watchers anyway.
