COLD winter is on it's way!

Tired of the Heat? Hang on – 2007 Farmers’ Almanac™ Predicts “SHIVERY IS NOT DEAD”

Lewiston, ME: After a brutally hot summer in most of the country, cool news is on the way. The new edition of the Farmers’ Almanac, which blows into town every year around the end of August, contains some chilly predictions for the upcoming winter.

"Shivery is not dead” reveals the 2007 Farmers’ Almanac, alluding to its winter weather forecast. “While global warming has taken up much of our attention (as well as news coverage), our winter predictions are pointing towards widespread cold from coast to coast, especially for the western sections of the country,” shares Peter Geiger, Philom., Editor. Geiger continues, “The cold may not be as frigid as 30 or 40 years ago, but we do expect this to be the coldest winter we’ve seen for quite a few years.” And, after last year’s unusual warmth, this chill might make winter harder than usual.

1. I ain't buyin'
3 times now we've had a murder hot summer and I thought we'd have a murder cold winter but it didn't happen. I had to go 500 miles north to get snow -- and boy did I get snow. 3 feet in 2 days on Dec 23/24. -- and they did not have a murder hot summer there. :)

My grandpa (who is close to 100 yrs old) swore the weather is just going to get stranger and stranger because of NASA poking holes in the sky. :) LOL

3. My grandma says the same thing!
The airplanes are screwing things up too, she sez. Won't fly, herself. I'm close to not flying too b/c of the hassle.

7. They're partly correct on the plane theory.
If you remember, temperatures were 2-3 degrees above prediction after 9/11. The theory was no planes to block the sun. Why do I feel a Chem trail discussion is not far off?

all those cars doing 70 on the world's freeways is stirring up the air and making the rain go in all the wrong places. :)

24. Where's the proof of that claim?
They claim great accuracy, but so do psychics, mediums, and all the rest of them.

Has anyone actually looked at the record?

9. I don't know.
 It is being predicted, mid-west will be 20 degree colder then normal. If this is true, it's going to be mighty cold.

11. But global warming WILL make it colder,
at least according to many scientists. Fresh water in the Atlantic from melting Greenland ice will disrupt the currents causing colder winters in the northeast and Europe.

13. Yes, that is what I'm hearing also.
There's so much underwater volcano going off all over the world and that is warming the ocean water and in the winter, this will create mess snow. I just heard a major snow storm in India that happen on Sept 1st and this NEVER happened before. If you want the article, I'll post it.

Snow In Sept: Freak Weather Continues

By The Times Of India News

SRINAGAR/DEHRA DUN: If floods in Barmer were a freak case, there's more. Unprecedented rain in the Himalayas has led to heavy snowfall in large parts of Uttaranchal and Kashmir.

While the Chenab and Jhelum were in spate because of record showers since Thursday, many parts of Jammu and Kashmir were blanketed by a cover of snow on Saturday.

A flood alert was sounded as the Srinagar-Jammu highway was blocked off, leaving hundreds of trucks and buses stranded.

While the snow in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, would have cheered tourists, it disrupted life and movement in many other parts, including Kargil.

In the Uttaranchal Himalayas, which usually gets snowfall in late October, the hills turned white after two days of snow, the first such white weekend in a decade.

Incessant rainfall for several days led to cooling and snowfall in Munsiyari, Panchachuli, Hansling Nandakot and other Himalayan peaks.

With temperatures dropping to between sub-zero and five degrees centigrade in the region, people geared for an early winter.

Uttaranchal Met office chief Anand Sharma said unseasonal rain and snow were caused by a westerly trough and a low pressure area.

"The western disturbance is quite active at the moment and is causing rain and snow in the hills," said Sharma. "In
the next 36 hours, more snow is expected."

15. That's my point. A lot of people don't know that, though
The excerpt from the Farmer's Almanac made it sound like Global Warming and cold weather are mutually exclusive. That's either ignorant or ill-considered.

16. Please... for FSM's sake, lets all stop calling it
"Global Warming" and start saying "Global Climate Change".

The climate change that mankind is causing with the release of CO2 into the atmosphere AND
(your grandparents are somewhat correct) contrails left by airplanes (but mostly the CO2) will
not be uniformly slightly warmer temps. In fact, summers could be much warmer and winters much
colder (but for shorter periods) and many many other local variances.

20. Bring It On!!!!!
Being the proud owner of one high powered multi staged wide mouthed snow flinger I'm all for it!.

Last year the beast only got taken out of the shed 3 times and even then it was for a measly couple of inches.

Nothing beats flinging those flakes all over the yard. It's the most fun you can have with your woollies on!

22. I certainly hope so!
Out here in the midwest we've been experiencing a major drought for the past two years. We need a large snowfall to replenish the water tables. And a very cold winter would be good also, kill all the damn bugs.

26. Something weird is going on
Usually at this time of year the squirrels are up in the trees munching the covers off the nuts and I guess hording them.
To walk under a tree in my yard is to get hit in the head with a nut or pieces of nuts.
You can usually HEAR them chewing and the nut parts falling. USUALLY
This year nothing. Nada. no nuts dropping, no parts of nuts dropping but lots of squirrels!
The pool doesn't have a nut in it either.....
So I know its going to be a weird winter....
Not sure if it means its going to be mild or hard.
Ask me next spring :)

27. A sign of global warming is severe winter weather....
deeper snow, wetter snow that floods everything when it melts earlier in the year leaving little to no water for crop irrigation.....
