For all of you math geeks out there: Since we launched our website at 12:00 noon ET on January 20, 2001 there have been 25 million posts in 5 years, 7 months, 17 days, and 10 minutes. That's an average of one post every 7.1 seconds! That's A LOT of posts.

Thank you to all of you who helped make Democratic Underground the most exciting and most popular progressive discussion forum on the Internets! It's been a great ride, and we're looking forward to the next 25 million posts.

71. Wanna Hear Something Funny Towards That End?

Just a few weeks ago I was trying to explain to my wife why it is so obssessing and exciting to be on here. She always says she just doesn't get it. I told her how fast paced it is and how amazingly quickly the threads change and comments fly.

To illustrate the point, using the DU statistics I said to her "Put it this way. DU started five and a half years ago. How many posts do you think a popular site would've had in that time?"

She responded that if it was as popular as I claim, Ohhhh maybe around 250,000. I said "gonna go with 250? sure that's your best guess?" and she said "ok, maybe, maybe I'll give ya 500,000".

I turned to her and said "Try almost 25 friggin million. In five and a half years. See what I mean by fast paced and constantly changing by the second now? LOL"

Her jaw almost dropped. She definitely got a better understanding of what I meant after I showed her the stats.

Just a little anecdote for ya. The frequency of posts here, topic changes, information updates is beyond staggering. It is what makes this hands down the most addictive, exciting and informative political website on the entire internet.

Thanks for all that you guys do, shame on me for not knowing that Elad and Earl weren't their real names (LOL), and here's to another great 25 million!
