Democrats get majority
What should be the first scandal that gets investigated?

1. Oh, there are too many to pick just one
The war, NSA wiretapping, Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, stolen elections, the list goes on and on.

3. Let's try the NOLA and the levees that were breached MONDAY night
making the entire flooding situation a FEDERAL problem which the Bush administration ignored. This makes the Bush administration responsible for the deaths of many Americans.

4. Here's my prediction....
If Democrats get the majority they will get to work doing things that actually need to be done. Funding things that need to be funded, coming up with foreign policy strategy, working on some semblance of an Iraq plan.

But because their first order of business will not be impeachment or investigations or scandals, many will begin grousing and complaining and saying "IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAN WITH THE REPUBS IN CHARGE!!!!" They'll then get complacent and bored since stone cold revenge (however justified) and throwing us red meat will not be the first priority of the newly elected dem congress, and next election cycle we'll lose the houses again or lose the presidency, not because of anything other than people in the democratic party and on the left having short attention spans and falling back into the "Oh there's no difference and the dems are no better than the repugs" trap that befell us during the middle portion of the Clinton years and during the 2000 elections.

There will need to be some sort of investigations into the behavior of this administration during it's more than 6 years of existance.

The Dems know that the executive branch is out of control, I can just hear them saying, Well, we
agreed to no impeachment, but the President has just ordered Chavez nuked, this is in addition
to Iran, Syria, North Korea and the night club where the bouncer was rude to not Jenna,
don't you think we should provide oversight, heck no, the Republicans never worried about it,
why should we?

10. No, no I dont think so...My goodness ..talk about being pessimistic...
I think they will get right to work trying to fix this mess and it certainly cant be done overnight..Impeachment will not be on the agenda...Why ..If the impeachment process began than for the next two years that would consume most of the valuable time with little if any major legislation passed..
Just a few issues to consider:
A real medicare bill, Including a real prescription drug program
Minimum Wage bill
Re-instate the Pell grant funding
Iraq war resolution
Immigration reform that's fair
Voting reform laws (to insure 2000 and 2004 never happen again)
And the list goes on and on

11. I agree with you that all those are and should be priorities...
But I also know that there are a ton of people who feel that impeachment and investigations and all that are more important or just as important. I'd love to see both things happen but not until everything else is taken care of. However sometimes I feel like I'm in the minority on that.

12. well there is just not enough time
This idiot only has two years left in office..so even if impeachment would go forward he would only have a couple months at most left of his term when he would be tossed out..Then we would have to deal with Cheney..As much as the public would want us to perhaps..Impeachment would be just too time consuming
And ya know If I was running for Congress and I was asked about Impeachment this is the answer I would give...

5. Start with the obviously impeachable.
-Lying to congress to start a war.

-Violating the 4th Amendment and the FISA law by spying on Americans without a warrant. (Lots of skeletons here; did he spy on political opponents?)

-Using taxpayer funds for propaganda.

John Conyers is going to be one busy man.

But first we must investigate Cheney's role in lowering NORAD's defenses on 9/11 by scheduling training exercises. Impeach Cheney first, or he becomes president!

9. I honestly don't think we should
Yeah I know, everyone want blood and I have no tension with that at some...perhaps even many....levels.

But I honestly think that we ought to be seen as Governing rather than bitch-slapping. Bush will have out his veto pen but the argument that "whatever" is too expensive frames him as an incompetant oaf that he is.

I am not saying that Bush is not impeachable. I am just saying if we act like adults, we earn the trust of the middle and we get to goven vor more than a couple of terms.

14. The Constitution mandates impeachment for abuse of power.
How is not acting "like adults" if we impeach him? I can't imagine anything more dangerous than sending a message that such flagrant abuse of power is acceptable.

15. Where does the Constitution mandate this?
Lets be real. Impeachment has always been used as a tool for a majority opposition party to spank the minoroty president. It has never had anything to do with abuse of power except during watergate.

Using your logic Reagan should have been impeached over Iran-contra. And it never really even came up.

16. Actually the first thing that needs to be done
is to work to ban Diebold, et al across the country and enact serious election reform.
Fair elections are the only way to ensure fairness for the 2008 elections.
I'd rather THAT be done before impeachment. We can always prosecute this bunch after they get out of office. I would rather we tried to achieve some good first.
