Children of clergymen murder a homeless man.
MIAMI - Angry over a homeless man's catcall, four friends went on a "feeding frenzy," police said, beating the elderly man to death with a metal chair, a steel rebar, a rock and a wooden stick.

Two men accused in Saturday's attack are the sons of Christian clergymen. All four have been charged with second degree murder.

"This was pure bloodlust," said Miami police spokesman Lt. Bill Schwartz. "There was no reason for this."

According to a police report, the attack was sparked when Janice Guillen, 18, went to her car to get cigarettes. Guillen told police she heard Jose Perez, 67, who was in the building across the street, toss out a pickup line "she felt was nasty," the report said. She told police she confronted Perez and punched him in the face.

2. There has to be some kind of validation that goes on within their own
groups which makes them feel they are above the law.

3. Whoever thought the guy deserved a beating just might
need one himself. See how he'd like it.

6. An eye for an eye, you might say.
Isn't that in their Bible? Or do they have a different one than I have?

13. Those claiming to be Christians may not actually be Christians
Persons denying the existence of Robots may be Robots themselves.

5. These stories flash me back to 'Clockwork Orange'
Guess I saw that movie at a vulnerable time for myself.
The future painted with just such scenes of random violence
scared the beejeesus out of me and I still fear the author
will be proven to be prophetic to some large degree. For me it
raises the question; how far could society
unravel into materialism and moral ambiguity.
The story setting is England. The reaity seems to be America.

Literature majors welcome to correct me. I'm a reader but by no means a scholar.

12. Even though set in Britain, I think Burgess was indicting western society
in general. "Ultraviolence" does seem to be an american thing, if you watch our movies and television. People get worked up about 3 seconds of Janet Jackson's nipple, but not about the constant violence on network television (HBO doesn't count).

Hell, my soap opera, which should be about promiscuous sex and romance, has way too much mob violence. We have tabloids-papers and tv shows-that obsess about things like Jonbenet Ramsey and actually sexualize her more than her mother and the beauty pageant ever did. I guess they figure it's okay once she's dead. The way the case was covered led to that lunatic confessing.

8. Maybe they can switch places and try being a black man in America.
Maybe they'd like to live within the confines of that stereotype.

Wah, wah, wah. Preacher's kids, if they do go bad, it's due to the restrictive environment created by their parents.

they are PK's. Way to stereotype!

15. As much as anyone else.
I've known three children of separate clergymen, and they all fit the stereotype. Luckily for you and others who worry about my generalizations, no one will use my posts as a reference for scholastic papers.

17. Sure, catcalling to a woman is in poor taste, but it doesn't deserve this
The Lynching of Emmett Louis Till

The horrific death of a Chicago teenager helped spark the civil rights movement

In the summer of 1955, Mamie Till gave in to her son's pleas to visit relatives in the South. But before putting her only son Emmett on bus in Chicago, she gave him a stern warning:

"Be careful. If you have to get down on your knees and bow when a white person goes past, do it willingly."

Emmett, all of 14, didn't heed his mother's warning. On Aug. 27, 1955, Emmett was beaten and shot to death by two white men who threw the boy's mutilated body into the Tallahatchie River near Money, Mississippi.

Emmett's crime: talking and maybe even whistling to a white woman at a local grocery store.

--more--

And this particularly poignant paragraph:

Mourners pass Emmett Till's casket in Chicago on Sept. 3, 1955. His mother insisted on an open casket and a public viewing that drew tens of thousands.

She wanted the world to see the horror done to her son...

18. It seems all of my atheist friends who have young male children...
...did a better job at raising them than these Men of God.

Funny, that. Must be our lack of morals.
