I Absolutely LOATHE Disney World/Land. Would Never Go. Don't You?
After all this commotion, after Disney's willingness to rewrite history and force propaganda on our children, how can I? Out of principle, how can I pay hundreds of dollars into a theme park knowing their willingness to sell America down the river?

How can I be happy to hold a Disney World ticket in my hand, knowing I just participated in deluding millions of American children, who will grow up thinking G.W. Bush was an honest man who boldly initiated a phoney "war on terror" which included Iraq as the "central front" of that war? When the 9/11 Commission even found that NO CREDIBLE LINKS EXISTED between Saddam and international terrorism? (bet you won't see that in Path to 9/11)

Knowing that ABC/Disney sent 100,000 letters to educators regarding this film? Knowing that ABC collaborated with Scholastic to propagandize American school children through "discussion guides" obviously skewed in favor of this Administration and their policies?

I thought Disney was about having fun, and giving children a fun place to visit. Now I find they're nothing but a SHAM, a dupe of this current administration, more than willing to deceive the very children they are bringing into their gates.

I will not take part in this kind of illicit propagandazing. I boycott Disney World/Land to the HILT and vow NEVER to enter into their gates again as long as I live.

Are you with me?

about 7 miles from home (today it's considered a National Historic Landmark for its Art Deco architecture).

Having one nearby, there was no need for our family to travel across the country to go to one.

31. I grew up going to "Rye Beach," too.
Also, Pleasure Beach in Bridgeport.

However, I've never had any interest in either of the Disney parks, even having lived in Los Angeles for a few years. I can't understand people flocking to Disneyland/Disney World for honeymoons when there are so many more wonderful places in the world to go.

2. disney boycotts don't work
Most of the people who boycott disney wouldn't go there anyway, so there is no statistical hit on their books from such an action.

Boycott ABC. ABC sells advertising slots based on "eyes" in each market. If they lose "eyes", they lose revenue, and they really don't like that. If it's a significant drop (there are only a limited number of fox viewers, and they're all watching fox), THEN Disney will get involved.

But a little honesty here. Can you promise that you won't watch one single thing on ABC, nothing, not any favorite show or re-run, ever?

Because if you can't then you're not sacrificing anything in your boycott and it won't work either.

7. Considering their Fall line up
boycotting ABC is pretty easy for me. Just as easy as boycotting Disney Land or World because I most likely will never go. As pointed out earlier this docu-whatever is up against football, so one suspects that viewership might take a hit based upon just that fact. I have no interest in watching it if it was entirely factual or complete fantasy. I remember the day well enough and waiting for a phone call from my daughter from NYC that seemed to take forever to come, so I don't need any made for TV reminders anymore than I need Mr. Bush rolling out the inflatable Osama threat doll for the occasion.

17. "inflatable Osama threat doll"
plus that utterly terrifying twenty year old footage of soldiers wearing pajamas climbing on monkeybars in Pakistan.

I get it though - the OP (as well as I) don't want to reward a company that is so out of touch with half of America; nor one that is inserting itself into the political discourse and process by feeding what are essentially complete fabrications to people who know will buy it in whole cloth just because it's on television.

I just think if we're really serious about it, we have to find a serious way to do it, and do it seriously. Realistically, we're doing what we need to do, plus I really believe we should insist they run Michael Moore's F911 with Moore doing a current narration, in balance.

63. I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree...
I've read letters on this board from people, who like me were ardent Disney fans. So I think the company will be losing the business of people that DO go there.

ABC and Disney are closely aligned so a boycott of both can and will be affective.

Disney was hurting prior to the surprise hit of the Pirates film a few years ago. They are vulnerable, just like any other company.

66. well, I do seem to remember the entire
southern baptist convention and other hard haired thin lipped conservatives boycotting disney over continuing to have "gay day" and domestic partner benefits.

The company who is airing this and making decisions on this is not Disney. It is ABC - that's where we have to focus our effort. Saying we won't to to disneyland a year from now won't change the lineup on ABC. If we want to be effective we have to do something effective, and quantifiable.

Also, I think one of the things that hurt the SBC was that most of America looked at them and said, "they're boycotting Disney
Whether right or wrong, informed, or underinformed, and even whether or not they agreed with Disney's domestic partner and gay days policy, they couldn't get past boycotting Tinkerbell.

So, as strategies go, the reality on the street is that it would be considerably less effective than to address ABC.

Here's a thought:

Let's find out who plans on advertising during that show, and contact them with a signed petition to boycott them. That's more effective and immediate and a word to the advertisers who ultimately are the REASON that show will be shown. Hopefully the only advertisers left will be Fleet Enema and the NRA.

I was in 3rd grade when it opened. My parents promised us a trip there and we never made it.

As teens, my parents always took us to Cedar Point, because it was close and they had the most roller coasters.

My sister took her kids in April and they are still talking about how much fun they had. My sis and her husband went there for their honeymoon, too.

I grew up with Disney and Disneyworld. As theme parks go, they are the masters of the dark ride and pioneers of just about everything else theme park-ey. Sure, Walt was a paranoid crazy man. Sure, the Disney corporation has become infested with the most corrupt right-wing monsters to walk amongst mortals. But the idea, the dream, was and still is a good one.

I'm not good at amusement parks; I get motion sick on a lot of rides, esp. the ones that go around fast & backwards. :puke:

And, going somewhere overpriced where I have to wait in line endlessly in the hot Florida sun with huge crowds isn't my idea of a vacation. Give me a beach & a boogie board....THAT'S a vacation!

per adult. That's $160. And you are allowed to bring picnic food and water onto the premises - we brought in a bag full of stuff. They checked our bags when we came in. There are no policies against outside food or drink, in fact the sign said just to eat that sort fo food in the picnic areas. And the parking is $10. We also don't spend money on their overpriced souveniers. We were there on July 4th.

24. We've boycotted Disney/ABC since 2005, after ABC's smear of ...
...Matthew Shepard.

Here's a recap of that ABC Rove-engineered propaganda piece, aired by ABC/Disney in 2005:

Does anyone else find it odd that this ABC "press release" was run in only one mainstream newspaper, namely, Ruppert Murdoch's NY Post? Yes, the story's been picked up by a handful of GLBT sites (advocate, 365gay, digital spy) but the only mainstream media I've seen it in is the Post.

The Post is the equivalent of FOX News, both owned by Murdoch, and both known for spinning, even distorting, facts to suit the conservative agenda.

That the Post printed this "press release" a good two weeks before the segment's airtime gives plenty of notice and time for controversy to stir, increasing its viewership. Reminds me of the Sinclair Broadcasting "press release" announcing the controversial airing of the anti-Kerry propaganda film, "Stolen Honor." Again, I can't help but feel this 6 y.o. "news" story is a plant by Rove, intended to further divide this already split nation.

There's also a very likely political motive behind this: Conservatives, fundamentalists, and BUSH himself oppose adding "sexual orienttion" to the existing Federal hate crimes law. They believe, in fact, that ALL crimes are "hate" crimes; thus "hate crime" laws are unfair as they "treat similar crimes unequally."

But I had to ask myself, "Would ABC knowingly air this anti-Gay, anti-hate crime piece?"

I did some googling. Here's what I found:

--Disney owns ABC. Disney's 2nd largest shareholder (Euro Disney) is the Saudi Royal Family, long time cronies of the Bush Crime Family. (http://www.bupipedream.com/012704/wire/w2.htm)

--Since 2000, there have been several changes to Disney's board of directors. One is Aylwin B. Lewis, who also sits on the board of Halliburton, Dickhead Cheney's war-for-profit company. (http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/bios/aylwin_lewis.html)update: as of 2006, Lewis is no longer on the board of Halliburton.

--The other Disney board director is John Bryson, a director of The Boeing Company, another war-for-profit US contractor ($100B) currently under federal criminal investigation ala Halliburton. Even more interesting, he is the Chairman of the Board and President/CEO of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, an electric utility, since 1990. Bryson wrote the deregulation legislation which gave Enron the greenlight to rob Californians of billions during the artificially created Enron-induced California energy crisis. (http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/bios/john_bryson.html)

Fratricide, e.g. Also it was the first film I noticed that was one long advertisement for Disney merchandise, and man was there ever a lot of it! The trend has continued. Commercialism bothers me, as does exposing children to the worst sort of evil & violence in cartoon form.

39. Thanks.
I first became aware of such Disney activities while attending a showing of Mary Poppins in Belfast, Ireland, in 1965. As the film was making fun of the father in the story for being focused on making money, Disney crap was being hawked relentlessly in the aisles. Later I learned from a friend how completely vulgarized the film version of the children's classic was. (I guess that's why Spielberg is considering a remake.) This shouldn't have come as a surprise after what Disney did to The Wind in th Willows and did, or was to do, to Winnie the Pooh.

And it's one of the reasons I give to my children when I tell them they can't rent/own any of those films. Classic stories are classic for a reason... even The Little Mermaid has a message, in its original form. But judging by your comments, I simply wasn't paying attention until I had my own kids. My parents were very strict about television and I saw my first movie when I was twelve, thirteen. Uninformed, that's what I was. My kids are not!

The only objection I have to Lion King was that it was a rip-off of Kimba the White Lion.

Fratricide? Isn't that a bit silly thing to get worked up about? Isn't the like not liking Fantasia because it promotes drug use and witchcraft? Or Sleeping Beauty because Prince Charming sexually assaults an woman who is unconscious and cannot, therefore, give consent? And merchandise... hasn't Disney and everybody else always made merchandise of their cartoon characters?

I'll agree that it sucks when your kid gets to scared at the movies... but I'm not seeing how that's Disney's fault.

It's not about the kids getting scared. It's about my kids being introduced by Disney to the hideous concept of killing one's own relatives. It's nothing like Fantasia or Sleeping Beauty. I'm surprised you disagree. But that's okay, you're entitled.

In the original Little Mermaid, the charming Prince marries another girl, and in a fit of rage Ariel decides she's going to murder the Prince. She reconsiders at the last minute, and committs suicide instead.

And if you think that's bad, try the original Sleeping Beauty.

40. Eh.
ABC and Disney are big corporations that have money in all sorts of places and the people who work at Disneyland, I'm sure, have nothing to do with this dumb movie.

30. Um.. nope... I have a soft spot for Disneyland.. was just there in Aug
and in spite of the recent ABC fiasco, we had a great time. We went to other places as well, Sea World, Legoland, it was kind of a theme park vacation fo the kids. Disney treated us best, they have their shit together. My wife can't get around to well and she was in a wheelchair. Disney went out of their way to make it easy for us to get around. We did not have the same experience at other places where handicapped access seemed like an afterthought. Besides the movie hasn't aired yet ;)

And, we were talking about going in the Spring. However, I sent to Disney telling why I wouldn't be coming this Spring.

I don't bankroll RW propaganda.

Those parks are carrying Disney right now -- not a good move.

My boy is now two and I look forward to taking him there in a couple of years.

Total commercialism run rampant but, The sense of wonder I had when I went there as a child I remember to this day. I cant wait to bring my boy.

I've been 3 times and had terrific fun each time. I know it sounds silly, but it's quite possible that it really is the "happiest place on earth."

now that the Big Dawg has slammed them, it should be interesting. But I am also planning to boycott Disney products if they show that film in its current form and in prime time on OTA network TV.

37. I worked for the company for 17 years until just recently
It's a mixed company politically; the only party the upper management belongs to is the party of the almighty buck, and sometimes they lean right, while other times they'll skew left-where ever they can get themselves the best deal.

Most of the middle management and employees are liberal, though. We have a huge gay and lesbian population in the company-remember, the Southern Baptists also boycott us (for partner benefits and Gay Days). I was an animator for feature animation for a number of years, and conservative groups were always complaining about our pro-environment, pro-women's rights, "PC agenda".

That said, the new batch of upper level managers is an awful bunch. Last month they laid off over 600 workers in pictures and television, plus EVERY ONE of my art directors from the five departments I contracted for (leaving me unemployed), and a hundred or so imagineers. They're outsourcing everyone overseas. So much for the All American Family Company!

So, while I know that they bulk of the people who work for the mouse are honest, hardworking non-conservatives-the upper management has to go. Soon.

65. Sorry to hear you lost your gig, Lorien...
I sincerely hope that you find something else utilizing your great talents very soon! I recall talking to you in the lounge (quite a while ago) about your drawings for the Pirate's sequel.

I had a few friends that worked for the park, but got fed up and quit. Sounds like the same kind of thing was going on in the parks.

I started to notice when we went there, employees looked less happy. More and more frequently, we encountered disgruntled employees. There was a time you went to the parks and most of the employees seemed genuinely glad to be there--which made others want to work there. My friends told me they are always hiring at the park now--they're desperate for employees.

yeah, I was working on stuff for Pirates 3 when I was recently "downsized". Those films are about all that was keeping the division going anyway. All of my art directors had been really unhappy for the past five years or so. Upper management had been treating them like total crap. Hopefully the chickens will come home to roost now!

I would't write Disney and say "I would never set foor in one of your parks and by the way I am boycotting them over the 9/11 film!" :)

57. Tro Boma Restaurant
at African Kingdom Lodge. It's an African buffet. Incredible array of different foods, very tasty. Soups especially good.

As far as rooms, we've liked the Yacht Club and the BoardWalk the best. Boardwalk had a kitchen so we could make breakfast and save some money.

Anyone going to DisneyWorld, ask for advice.

best buffet I've ever been to.

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom hotel when we went to DW last year. It was a beautiful place with very friendly employees.

I have to say, though, my time at DW last year was less magical than when we went 8 years before. I had more than one cast member complain about low wages and there were a lot of problems with the rides. If I were going to boycottt it would be over the deterioration of quality and worker pay.

72. Yeah but they don't care about you because u loathe them On the other hand
if they lose loyal customers and those who view Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, LOST, ETC. and take the Disney Cruises.. then they will get concerned.

That's their calculated risk that those they are offending are not their customers.. Hell you hate them anyway, so WTF if they piss YOU off

they don't lose a cent, but we have to educate the masses that if they lie about this to their viewing public, then WHAT ELSE ARE THEY WILLING TO LIE ABOUT?...

and how does that distinguish them from PRAVDA during the COLD WAR..??? ABC/Disney has become the propaganda arm of a corrupt regime, but the general

public has yet to realize it.

Pretty scary stuff. I didn't think I'd see it in my lifetime.......

84. From Trier to Paris Disneyland
A few years back, i had the chance oddity of visiting the birthplace of Karl Marx,
Trier, in Germany near the french border. At the house i was treated with many
visiting chinese, there to do homage to the saint. Its a pretty ordinary house,
as much as any birthplace is likely to be... and well, the tour next went on
to paris disneyland.

And there, standing in the giftshop, were hardline communists disgusted with
the excesses of capitalism when there are so many in poverty. And all of the
fake european little hobbit buildings, are in villiages all around where the
disneyfake is built, cold and filled with people who remember the strife of
thousands of years of war and empires made and undone.

And disneyland has become a symbol of the american dissonant fantasy, that in
the middle of a state war crime, people can ride around in their little
family censored utopia like prince gautama in his garden, that states supported
disssonance is the way to go, but whatever you do, don't remember Trier.
