Just as surely as Dan Rather's Bush/TANG report brought him down ...

.... this will bring down the whole ABC Network. The jingoistic ABC execs need to realize the RWers are on the wane and the Dems are gaining favor with each passing day thanks to the criminally idiotic antics of the Boosh administration. They will soon regret their actions.

Remember, it was the ABC Network that unsuccessfully tried to promote Oxy-Rush Limbaugh into the limelight on Monday Night Football and other venues and they caught a lot of flack over that. They keep on trying but apparently they are slow learners.

4. Yeow! Give the man/woman a seeeeeegar!

I think this is why ABC is airing this mockumentary, and why CBS went with Katie Couric as (gulp) "anchor." Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the networks have been losing viewers for some time now. The ones leaving tend to be wanting other sources for news and reports, like the Internet(s). I know I personally have not watched network news (or cable news for that matter) since 1996. I rely on the Internet (sites like DU :hi:) for my news and information, as well as informed commentary and insightful analysis. So what's a network to do? You got it, "Cut and Run!" Let the "intelligentsia" leave and concentrate on the remaining viewers, ie, "Bush's Base." Turn everything into infotainment...

But as you observed, the suits may be shooting themselves in the foot. Perhaps they'll realize this when that finally figure out why no one but slack-jawed neo-con fundies and freepers are watching their shit.

5. I doubt this will bring down the whole ABC network
most people aren't even paying attention to this.

6. When you say,
"this will bring them down", what exactly do you mean?

People may no longer have faith in ABC's objectivity, and may stop watcing them. that's OK. But do you mean political retaliation by the new Democratic Congress? That would be just wrong, an attack on one of our most precious Constitutional rights, the freedom of the press.

If this means anything, it means the right to be wrong, to be offensive, even to lie. The remedy is more free speech, not suppression of speech. Show them up as the liars that they are or as the haters that they are, but don't, whatever they do, try to suppress the freedom of expression. Over the years this freedom has been a bigger boon to progressive thought than any other, and if it can be taken away from them, it can be taken away from us.

8. Certainly I don't foresee the demise of the network.

But I'm sure this will have a noticeable impact on their ratings. Which could lead to a shakeup at the top levels of the ABC news and entertainment divisions. Nothing gets their attention more than a marked ratings dip.

10. This is true,
and appropriate. Just as Dan Rather had to go once he had lost the trust of the public, deservedly or not, so will certain decision makers at ABC have to leave if ratings drop.

This is the way that the market-place of ideas works: like any other.

7. I agree - ABC is "Rathering" themselves
They look like a bunch of terrorist-loving traitors with this stupid film - covering up for the Bush (who let 9/11 happen and let Bin Laden get away), and attacking Clinton (who actually PREVENTED the Millennium Plot).

In addition to the boycotts, petitions, letters... you can print out Will Pitt's "data dump" showing how Clinton helped prevent terrorism.

There's a handy downloadable/printable PDF of Will's article here:

It would be great if you could print up some copies and drop them off in your area, so people who aren't online will see that ABC is "full of it".
