Stunned by the negative response to ABC's upcoming crockumentary, presidential adviser Karl Rove has requested that ABC add a scene to their program what will "help to clarify President Clinton's active role in the events leading up to and including 9/11." Rove stated that "the White House is troubled that ABC's program portrays the former president as being uninvolved with the events of 9/11. President Clinton was very involved and engaged, and we want the docudrama to get things right."
In the scene to be added - which was written by Rove himself - President Bush is shown calling President Clinton on the evening of September, 10, 2001. The brief conversation - which is heard entirely from bush's end - depicts President Bush asking Clinton directly if, "you would like to stand in for me as acting President tomorrow morning. I have a school event in Florida, and I think that it would help launch a feeling of bi-partisanship in Washington if you were to takes over the reigns, if only for a few hours." The scene shifts to VP Dick Cheney who asks, "well, did he accept your offer?," to which Bush replies, "I don't know. I guess it's a matter of whether or not 'no' means 'no.'"
Rove said that the scene was necessary to dispel the impression that "9/11 happened on President Bush's watch. Clearly, he was off the watch when the terrorists struck, and it is un-American for anyone to suggest otherwise."
In a follow-up question, veteran reporter Helen Thomas asked Rove, "are you saying that President Bush made a horrible decision in asking President Clinton to act as president for that morning? And if so, are you saying that it was ultimately President Bush's bad decision that led to the entire 9/11 debacle?" Rove replied that "I'll, uh, need to get back to you on that one...did I mention the terrorists want to kill you?"
ABC could not be reached for comment.
Made ya look! :)
