Which is all it is, of course -- an opinion.

I don't find any of the tapes of him since December of '01 credible in the least. I believe he was ill, on the run, and very likely died in the mountains of Pakistan that winter. There are reports -- not necessarily 100% credible, either -- that that's what happened. The '04 video of him standing at a podium, barely moving, taken from a distance, was very odd.

I believe that the US knows he's dead, but needed him to be alive in order to make the case that terrorism was still a threat -- at least until they had completely transferred the fear to Iraq. After that, they hoped everyone would forget him.

21. Ok, but I think that idea rests on a faulty assumption.

It's a talking point for Democrats that
1. bin laden hasn't been brought to justice like bush said he would be
2. the pentagon gets too much tax payer money
3. our policies in the Mid-East suck.

It's a bushadmin weakness that bin laden is still alive. edit: or rather not brought to justice while our troops are dying to unwittingly recruit bin laden's replacements. /edit
