We have your sons: CIA

March 10 2003
By Olga Craig
Kuwait

Two young sons of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the September 11 attacks, are being used by the CIA to force their father to talk.

Yousef al-Khalid, 9, and his brother, Abed al-Khalid, 7, were taken into custody in Pakistan in September when intelligence officers raided a flat in Karachi where their father had been hiding.

Mohammed fled just hours before the raid but his sons and another senior al-Qaeda member were found cowering behind a wardrobe in the apartment.

The boys have been held by the Pakistani authorities but this weekend they were flown to America where they will be questioned about their father. CIA interrogators confirmed that the boys were staying at a secret address where they were being encouraged to talk about their father's activities. "We are handling them with kid gloves," said one official. "After all, they are only little children, but we need to know as much about their father's recent activities as possible. We have child psychologists on hand at all times and they are given the best of care."

Mohammed, 37, is being held in solitary confinement at the Bagram US military base in Afghanistan. He is being subjected to "stress and duress" interrogation techniques.

1. "We are handling them with kid gloves"
Aren't kid gloves what fighters wear when they don't want to cut their hands while beating the shit out of eachother?

Unfortunate choice of words, that.

5. Just whenI think it can't get any worse
I read something like this that curdles my blood. "We have child psychologists on hand at all times and they are given the best of care." Any psychologist who would participate in something this loathsome should be cast out of the profession permanently.

7. What ever it takes to stay in power I guess.
They will blow up kids for power so I guess this group in power would give up kids to keep power. After all Jones gave them kool-aid. Hitler burned them and the last Czar just let them slowly die from no food. People can be really sick.

8. meep
this is an atrocity. iirc, they were caught before holding the relatives (including children) of 'wanted' men hostage in iraq, a clear violation of the geneva conventions.

10. .
Is this legal? I'm serious, can it be legal to just fly out the children (aged 7 and 9) of criminals to question them in a secret environment in a country they don't know? Do the kids have people there they can trust, any relatives or at least lawyers?
I remember these kinds of actions from movies...done by the bad guys like uhh terrorists.

an interview on msnbc
http://www.infowars.com/transcripts/adams.htm
Dan Abrahms defends it,basically

ABRAMS: Mr. Lang, I would think that anything is OK beyond physical torture. I mean, I would think that -- because I don't think there is such a thing as defining mental torture. I just don't think that we can start getting into the business of saying, well, this might be going too far mentally and this is not. I think

12. US Silent on Torture of Children
http://www.antiwar.com/orig/croke.php?articleid=3286

Just as the U.S.-led forces refused to release thousands of adult prisoners after the June 28 handover of partial sovereignty to Iraq, U.S. and UK authorities continue to incarcerate children.

The Pentagon says around 60 teens, "primarily aged 16 and 17," are still being detained, though unnamed sources at the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command (CentCom) said some prisoners are as young as 14 years old, according to Scotland's Sunday Herald. The British Ministry of Defense also admitted that it had interned minors, and that one was still in custody.

15. Due process?
I suppose the fact that these children are being deprived of their freedom without due process of the law is irrelevant now that the Constitution is only upheld when it suits the whims of our dictator.
