Thirty-something women 'should freeze their eggs before it's too late'
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23365995-details/Thirty-something+women+'should+freeze+their+eggs+before+it's+too+late'/article.do

Women in their 30s who delay motherhood should freeze their eggs before they leave it too late to have children, a fertility expert has warned.

Dr Gillian Lockwood said the "Bridget Jones" generation of single women should consider putting their eggs "on ice" for future use.

Otherwise they may reach an age when they find that their best childbearing years have already passed them by.

Critics, however, have questioned the value of freezing eggs to beat a woman's biological clock. They say women should be encouraged to have their children younger instead of putting off starting a family for 'lifestyle reasons'.

1. Young children are a test for people in their 30s, also trying to further
their education.

And younger is better solely in the context people can multitask more in their 20s.

2. How about having kids before they get old?
If it's not important enough to a person to do when thier child has a good chance at health and they'll have the energy to keep up, they ought not to bother.

Unfortunately babies are the current fashion trend in the gravity-challenged demographic, so they either concieve babies arteficially at great risk to the child's health and thier own or they buy them on the foriegn baby market. Then, because if they wanted to make the kid a priority they'd have had them at a reasonable age, they usually turn the kid over to a nanny, daycare facility or some other subsitute parent at the earliest possible moment. Doesn't seem fair to the kid, and it sure won't seem fair to the parents when they're retirement age and they've got kids in college.

In less than 50 years, motherhood has been turned inside-out, and upside down.

and what did it?

actually, a good thing..

Women wanted choices, and we got them...in spades.

Get married/partnered at 18, have 4 kids, stay with them at home until they are in school all day, and then find a little "nothing-job" for "pin money"..

That was all that most women had available to them before the "revolution".

Of course there were few choices because "women did not need to go college, and most did not"... They used to find and marry a guy who DID graduate from college, and who earned enough to support the family on his income alone.

and then they DID..

Women started to see that they too, could earn decent money and support themselves without the "encumbrances" of a man and some kids.. Many wanted to enjoy the things their own mothers never had a chance to have..

Those things come with a hefty price tag, though.

Nature intended for the females to have a limited reproductive life, and that's just a fact. science can tweak things here and there, but it's not possible for most of us to "have it all"..Everything has a trade-off..

Of course it would be her decision. But warnings by experts....before it's too late...fear...blah blah blah! Whatever.

6. Damn! I forgot to put my eggs on ice.
Oh well - I guess I'll just have to be single, child-free and happy for the rest of my life.

10. OK the timing of this is suspect, in my mind
Just a day or two ago they had a report about older fathers increasing the risk of having children with autism than younger fathers.

Now this.

Is there a fear campaign to scare older parents out of having children? Or worse, to talk younger people (namely women) out of pursuing career and higher education...to concentrate on having kids?

:tinfoilhat:

(And yes, I'm an older mom (38 with a 1.5 year old). I married at 31. I could have married earlier, but it would have been to the wrong person, and the thought of having kids with said wrong person makes me cringe and shudder....I like the way things turned out....)

11. I hear you ...
I'm the same age ... and I have to admit, if I'd had a child with the person I was with in my 20s, it wouldn't have worked out well for the kid. I'd have been left a struggling single mom, and I don't think I could have handled it. Not to disrespect people who are coping with that situation -- quite the opposite, in fact.
