Bananas go for 59 cents a pound

Last summer they were usually around 20 cents a pound.

Almost everything on the grocery shelves has a price ticket of around four or five dollars each. Last summer I thought that the price ticket of around three to four dollars each was very pricey.

Much has been said about the price of gas, but I really believe that bringing home the groceries is what is weighing on most everyone's minds these days.

Going to the grocery store is very scary.

6. Items on sale at a grocery story are nothing to judge by

If you do so, you're getting played. Sales...marketing...it's all to get you in the store. Hell, they could offer bananas at 5 cents per pound and still reap mega profits based on what they sell IN ADDITION to the bananas. Besides, if they have an abundance, 20 cents a pound on bananas is better than nothing on scrub that they toss.

7. I understand that bananas are a loss leader in my store

But they use to go on sale for 20 cents, now one year later they go on sale for 59 cents. That is much more than that 4 percent inflation rate the GOP is so proud about.

I keep thinking as I walk around the store that almost everything on the shelves now cost more than one hour's pay of the minimum wage earner. No wonder they eat at McDonald's and buy their groceries at Walmart.

I'm just making perspective. The fluctuation in price to the consumer in many cases is scandalous.

You're also very right in saying that it's no wonder some choose Walmart and McDs. It's shameful, and it's a big part of why I'm here.

especially plastic products, or products that use plastic for storage. I have noticed eggs/milk, tp, paper towels, and a lot of other items creep up, since last year actually. There are some stores that have kept their prices low, but there are soem stores who cannot afford that luxury.

What a steal. They are always .99 a pound here, and have been for years, unless you shop at Costco.

11. I pay 29 cents a pound.

If they are over ripe, it is 19 cents a pound. Gas here just dropped 10 cents this week to 2.59 a gallon. I last filled up 8 weeks ago on July 13th and the price then was $3.01 a gallon.
