Designs for WTC buildings revealed

The designs for three office towers, each created by a different architect, at the World Trade Center site in New York city have been unveiled.

The three buildings, which will descend in height in a semicircle around the memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, will join the Freedom Tower that is already being built.

"Each design is timeless in its feel and reflects the genius of each architect," said developer Larry Silverstein at a news conference at the site on Thursday. Silverstein says the new designs will help produce a "dynamic, retail-oriented streetscape."

The largest of the three new towers — designed by Norman Foster — is 78-storeys high with a roof divided into four diamond shapes to be lit at night.
