DID ABC BACK DOWN?
From the New York Post:

The chorus of outrage - ranging from Clinton cabinet members to liberal bloggers to 9/11 families to ordinary moms canceling trips to Disneyland - put ABC and parent company Disney under tremendous pressure just days before the movie's premiere.

First to go was a made-up scene showing Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger hanging up on CIA operatives who were moments away from killing Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. "You will not see that in that way in the final edition," Kean said.

The Clinton White House did scotch several opportunities to kill Al Qaeda's founder because intelligence was sketchy. But unlike in the film, the CIA was never steps away from Bin Laden, nor did Berger hang up on agents in the field, Kean admitted.

...and my favorite paragraph...

Driven by the Internet's main liberal Web sites, the outrage over ABC's dramatization was reminiscent of the 2003 conservative furor that forced CBS to pull an unflattering Ronald Reagan biopic. Phones rang off the hook and e-mail boxes were clogged all day at Scholastic Inc., ABC and Disney. "We're getting slammed," said one frazzled ABC staffer.

27. No kidding
With no gatekeeper, they have no way to tell us "this is not an important story so shut your faces." There will be attempts everywhere to nibble away at the freedom of the net. The one hope is that there is so much money to be made from it that no one provider will ever get dominance enough to impose restrictions. And hopefully we'll have dems in charge for the next couple of decades, and there will be hell to pay if they fuck with the net. The Repukes will just scream national security and get their sheep to back them, but dems don't work that way.

3. hahahahah can you imagine if Liberals used their energy to do this:
Namely email several GOP contributors demanding they get the congress to raise to the minimum wage to TEN dollars an hour or lose our business?

Have you had enough of the Republican Party?

You can do something about them today. Complain to their money contributors that produce consumer products and send this list of demands to these companies listed in the list and tell them you will not buy from them until the CEOs get congress to enact these demands after the GOP holds a press conference.

A progressive agenda for America.

I demand that the Republican Party hold a press
conference and accede to these demands. Until such a
press conference happens and the legislation and/or
actions gets passed I will boycott products from
Republican contributors Dell Computers, Walmart,
Wendy's, Outback Steak House, Dominos Pizza,
Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Eckerd, CVS and Walgreens,
Curves for women health clubs, General Electric and
Exxon/Mobil.

I demand that congress pass legislation ending the war in
Iraq and withdraw the troops and arrange with the
United Nations to replace US troops with UN troops to
defend Iraq until The Iraqi army can defend Iraq.

I demand that the Republican party end their aggressive and
hateful action to end a woman's right to choose
abortion or not.

I demand that the Republican party end their aggressive and
hateful action to harrass immigrants to this country.

I demand that the Congress of the United states and the
president of the United States enact a law to increase
the minimum wage to TEN dollars an hour and also to
extend unemployment benefits to a year or more for all
people whose unemployment benefits expired after 6
months even though they still seek work.

I demand that the Congress of the United States to not
privatize social security benefits in any form
including taking a percentage of the social security tax
and placing it in private accounts. People can
already create their own pensions with money after
taxes in the private sector.

I demand that the congress make all of a person's earned
income taxable for social security FICA tax purposes
and remove the 88,000 dollar taxable income limit. This
will make social security solvent for many years to
come.

I demand the congress increase the payroll tax in order to
make social security solvent as well.

I demand congress and the president enact a prescription
drug benefit under Medicare Part B which covers 80
percent of medication cost, with no extra premium, no
extra deductibles, no means test and no coverage gaps,
and no penalties for signing up in a succeeding year.

I demand congress repeal the faulty Medicare law HR 1 / S 1
passed by congress in Nov 2003 which includes repealing the means
test for Medicare Part B.

I demand the congress roll back the Medicare Part B monthly
premium to 78 dollars a month.

I demand congress enact single payer universal health
insurance for every citizen as minimum coverage.

I demand that congress and the president enact universal
vote by mail throughout the 50 states of the United
States of America with paper ballots easy to fill out
and difficult to change or invalidate by Republican
Party officials. This will prevent Republicans from
vote suppression by skin color and political party
which happened electronically and in person in the 2000
and 2004 elections.

I demand that congress and the president enact that civil
servants on every state payroll keep track of voter
registrations and vote counting of mail in votes in
each precinct and not companies such as Choicepoint. We
need to take the Republican Party out of the business
of keeping track of voter registration and counting
votes.

I demand that congress and the president ban the secretary
of state in each of the 50 states from engaging in
politics especially acting as a campaign official for a
presidential campaign.

I demand congress enact legislation protecting private
pensions from corporations deliberately declaring
bankruptcy or ending pensions outright.

You also pledge to boycott travel to South Dakota and Louisiana and their products as best as you can unless you reside in these states and will call or send email to the governor of Louisiana and South Dakota and tell them that unless they get their legislatures to repeal the abortion bans fully, you will not do business with them any more and that you will not do business with antiabortion and Republican Party supporting companies Dominos Pizza and Curves for women health clubs.

There were no contributors involved here, because ABC had *no advertisers* for this. None. This was pressure directly upon the network.

Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 04:39 AM by liberaldemocrat7
The other night I saw several Wendy's and Red Lobster advertisements during the Belushi show.

Wendy's and Red Lobster give money to the GOP. You can look it up on opensecrets.org

ABC just wants to hide the advertisers.

49. ABC has advertisers
Even for this, they have advertisers. For this, they just don't have 'appropriate' advertisers.

becides, I don't care what show their commercial is on, if they advertise on ABC, or its affiliates, whether on TV or radio, its dead to me.

it doesn't really matter if they pul it or not. its dead.

12. I don't believe they'll pull it.........
they have too much invested and The Reich-Wing propaganda wurlitzer would go completely off the hook should they back down from showing this "factual" account of the events of 9/11. Disney/ABC may be beginning to fear the left's wrath but they certainly fear the Reich-Wing's wrath more. Besides, Disney/ABC has a lot to lose should the balance of power be upset in Washington. Those fat Corporate tax breaks could be in jeopardy should a power shift occur in November. Their best interests are served by airing this propaganda assault on Democrats.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I hope they come to their senses and back away from this historical travesty they've concocted. But I doubt it. They're well aware of which side of their bread is buttered and WHO butters it for them.

16. Shouldn't ABC had noticed that when a producer alters events for dramatic
gain, many people will demand honesty - one way or the other???

"A Beautiful Mind", done by Opie or whatever his name is, santized John Nash's life for that overrated purported "bio-pic" -- particularly in the form of the homosexuality, anti-semitic behavior, abandoning the woman he impregnated, et cetera, et cetera?

If ABC reclassified this 9/11 flick as a fiction, they can do what they want. But they instead are daring to call this 'piece' as authentic, which means they are being grossly inaccurate; when they scribble up entirely fictitious scenes, that's far worse. For those alone they deserve all the frazzling they are getting.

It's documented the congress of the time kept slamming Clinton. Now I never cared for Clinton much (he happily helped with the offshoring (NAFTA, et al) and frivolous lawsuit (DMCA, et al) problems), but when the repubs who controlled it all complained about excessive spending as the reason for cutting those anti-terror programs, ABC's own bit of revisioning really becomes annoying.

53. To me, ABC has already taken off the mask
Disney has as well. Is Disney's reputation worth 40 million dollars, they placed into the production of this trash they call a docu-drama? It is to me.

They have taken off their mask and revealed themselves for what they are. Imagine they wanted to use this trash, to feed it to our children, pollute their minds.

What is behind that mask is hideous.

Are they desparate, or are they confedent? Why now, right before the elections? I am afraid to find an answer to that question.

Good work Will.

Never give up, WE THE PEOPLE.

54. did the Internet do for Dems what phone trees did for the GOP?
It always seemed to me that the right was better at getting their troops out for whatever cause. I've watched the crazy Eagle Forum get scores of people up to the legislature on a moment's notice for some percieved wrong.

I was torn about the Dems being the organized/lemming like. Might work for a more liberal legislature to apply that kind of pressure but it has its down sides (everyone knows the people who respond to the phone tree call are robots).

But I sort of like that we are doing it on the Internet. It is not so passive, someone doesn't just call you on the phone and give you marching orders. When I read a post "call here right now!" I have all the resources at my disposal to find out what the issue is and decide whether I should act.

Is the left catching up with the right's tactics? That's gotta help. We might not keep Path off the air like they kept Reagan off, but we might make the propagandists think twice and it seems adjustments are being made to the most flagrant misinformation.

66. Look at that first line:
"ranging from Clinton cabinet members to liberal bloggers to 9/11 families to ordinary moms canceling trips to Disneyland"

And remember who runs the New York Post. Let's play "What They're Really Saying", for a second.

"Clinton cabinet members" = Clinton bad, remember? Blowjob?

"liberal bloggers" = left-wing wacko conspiricy theorist Bush/America haters.

"ordinary moms canceling trips to Disneyland" = clueless women (and yes, to the average caveman, that does matter), making decisions for political reasons - influenced by the first two things listed above as reported by the liberal media - that affect their kids' ability to live a part of their childhood.

So we have appeals to blind hatred, false patriotism, and condescendng mysogyny masked as concern. You gotta hand it to 'em - it's bullshit, but it's well-scripted bullshit.

71. Yeah, it's just the way we see the truth at Campaign HQ
"Asked if he had apologized to Clinton for inaccuracies in the movie, Kean quipped, "No, he was out campaigning against my son yesterday, so I didn't reach out to him at all!""
