Variety: ABC Considering Pulling "Path to 9/11"
Posted: Thurs., Sep. 7, 2006, 5:41pm PT

Pols pound 'Path'

Under fire, ABC mulls yanking mini

By WILLIAM TRIPLETT

"The Path to 9/11" is looking a lot like "The Reagans, Part II."

Bill Clinton loyalists are demanding wholesale changes to the upcoming miniseries -- and while ABC is making some snips, the alterations, insiders say, may not please the Dems.

But a bombshell decision may happen anyway: Sources close to the project say the network, which has been in a media maelstrom over the pic, is mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether.

As for specific criticisms -- and changes -- the original mini contained a scene in which then-National Security Adviser Sandy Berger declines to give the CIA authority to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, even when CIA operatives know where the al-Qaeda leader is.

1. Thanks, kpete! They better not 'mull' too long; their reputation, such
as it is, is taking a thrashing!

3. This really shows the power
of the blogs, doesn't it? Liberal blogs can force a huge multi-national corporation to give up. It feels pretty good!

4. I don't believe it, and I'll have to see it happen before I do believe it
All the hype is just free advertising. It is a politically motivated film in an election season. There is obviously way too much riding on deflecting the 911 failure from Bush and the Republicanists.

13. I'm not buying it either. It would be a classic rethug move to calm their
critics with false rumors, then air that crap anyway.

Time to redouble efforts!

5. Bush is going to address the nation with his
uplifting remarks on Sept. 11 in the evening. So ABC is going to have to cancel the program. Plus there are two foot ball games on Monday so who is going to watch the ABC/Disney program????

6. But what of the rest of their mass distribution scheme?
Even tho they'll yank PT9/11 from primetime, I suspect they still intend to mass distribute thru the U.K.'s BBC and India, as well as through free iTunes downloads, Internet streaming and, worst of all, thru Scholastic via their "study materials" to our public schools.

7. "Bill Clinton Loyalists"
Ever the assholes, the MSM are.

No, it's more like put the fucking blame where it TRULY lay, and that's at the feet of the administration whose WATCH it HAPPENED on and the FAA's, NORADs, CIA, FBI, etc who FAILED to prevent it despite TONS of information at their disposal prior to the attacks.

NOT!

Even if they do pull it, ABC has nothing I care to see. Maybe if they bring back Koppel.

16. I wonder what the BBC would do if ABC pulled it?
Because they're showing on Sunday and Monday evening too - but the time difference means they'll show it first. I don't know if there are any other broadcasters showign it on those 2 days. Without the party political implications here, it's had almost no controversy - yet, anyway.

17. I think...
Michael Moore did a really good job outlining the events of 911 in his movie. They were short snippets but they were accurate and anyone that watched 'got it'. No one could take more to court and prove he was lying...but we sure can take ABC to court for liable and win.....wait a tick, let them show it and let's sue. Talk about free publicity and a verdict that would be damaging. To quote Chucklenuts...Bring it on!

21. You're assuming the court case would receive publicity...
Given the current state of homogeneous monopolistic oligarchy which exists
in the media I can assure you it would receive none.

Plus, such a suit would only happen after the mid-term elections when any
damage from the movie would have already been accomplished.

19. Why doesn't ABC do what CBS did with the Reagan movie?
After burning $40 million making "Path to 9/11," Disney/ABC is going to want it aired somewhere... so why wouldn't ABC just go ahead and do what CBS did with "The Reagans" and move it to one of its sister cable channels?

Freepers looking for their fix of hardcore conserva-porn could watch "Path" on Lifetime, E!, or ABC Family. None of these have the kind of reach that an air network like ABC has.

ABC gets to run their lovely little propaganda piece and preach to the choir, without poisoning the discourse among more casual viewers who might happen to tune in because it's airing on ABC itself.

Their insistence on running this miniseries on the air network suggests bad, bad intentions.

20. This lie about standing down is 12? years old. And now it's on
film and may be pulled. Exposed to the light - the lie is exploding. Perhaps it should go forward so that every distortion can be countered officially for posterity and more people can know about the partnership of Disney/ABC with the right wing. And so that we can find out who funded it and who sat in on meetings
and approved it. Expose more. Go forward.

Showing it may be beneficial because the after affects will be needed to counter the already released publications and dvd's coming out of Scholatic even though they stopped their participation.

The damage from Scholastic is what we have to worry about. This is stuff that goes into our kids heads - and it parallels all the claims stated by the right wing about the teachings of young Cuban children. They make the claim of brainwashing. This is the same stuff. Scholastic should not be seen as heroes. If they entered into this young kid so-called education crap, they had to know what it was all about. If they didn't, they are equally guilty.

Messing with children is a nasty crime. Scholastic was not exactly heroic.

Whether they show it or not, the Dems are putting on their pants and pantyhose and cotton socks and are motivating each other to fight. Feet are on the ground. And it is good for the nation and the world.

22. This is the time to go at it even harder
Update: As Christy at Firedoglake opines, this is NO time to let up on the pressure, in fact, it's appropriate to ratchet it up a notch:

This is NO time to let up pressure. In fact, this is the time to go at it even harder. Call Disney at 1-818-560-1000 or 1-818-460-7477. Call ABC at 1-212-456-7777 or 1-818-560-1000. Please be polite, but firm, regarding why you find lying to the public about 9/11 to be offensive.
