Another boycott idea: Buy Miramax stuff, boycott everything else Disney
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 12:11 PM by calipendence
Harvey Weinstein, head of Miramax, was the one guy that helped Michael Moore's F-911 film get produced, and it was Eisner and parent Disney Corp. that kept Moore from distributing this film to the point that Weinstein had to go outside of ABC to help form a separate entity to help Moore distribute the film.

If you look at this "affilliate donation" page, note the totals for Miramax donations ALL go to Democrats. Weinstein is our friend folks. If, through our boycott of every other part of the company, and rewarding Miramax with more business, Weinstein is made more powerful within Disney Corporation, who knows, perhaps we could push shareholders into thinking that Weinstein is the guy that deserves to be on top. That would be the BEST way to stop this right wing media takeover!

My bet is that if Weinstein were in charge, it would be more the right wingers worried about ABC airing "9/11: Press for Truth" instead, though I'm guessing he'd be more judicious on how he gave time out to each side of the issues.

2. Weinstein no longer has anything to do with Miramax
He has his own company, The Weinstein Company.

3. It's the Weinstein Bros., not Miramax
Disney kicked them out of Miramax.

4. I stand corrected on the Weinsteins still being there.
Does anyone know if the donation data here is reflecting of when they were in charge, or if it is updated from the time since they left. Makes me want to support Miramax less, but I wonder if there are still folks there in the chain of command at Miramax that are decent folks that Weinstein might have hired and still reflect his values rather than of the wingnut Disney parent company. However, even if it is so, they are probably less visible than Weinstein and therefore not apt to be "elevated" up the corporate ladder to powerful positions, even if their business unit is made to be more profitable. Might work against us with Weinstein out that it will look like they've "improved" things since Weinstein left if they are more a part of the Disney power structure than they were of Weinstein's former power structure.
