IMO, Democrats had BETTER take control of Congress in two months, and had better make restoration of the Fairness Doctrine and maintenance of Net Neutrality their top priorities.
The ABC travesty of 9/11 history to air this weekend should scare us like nothing preceding it. It's an unavoidable reminder that big corporations in the US are following Murdoch's (UK) and Berlusconi's (Italy) lead to capture most of ALL the media for right-wing propaganda use. There was NO right-wing radio talk-show domination before Reagan ended the Fairness Doctrine. Now broadcast TV "public affairs" seems to be taking the same sharp right turn radio talk took years ago.
Broadcast media since then have not been held accountable for putting opposition viewpoints on the air. Just think of the trillions corporations have "saved" in taxes because of Republican influence in the federal government since 1980. Since quick cash by any means necessary is what they apparently care about most, they have every incentive to use Orwelllian media control to keep their party in office indefinitely.
I ran across a very scary right-wing "think piece" that explains how the same First Amendment arguments that scuttled the Fairness Doctrine and campaign finance reform in federal courts could be used to gain the same right-wing/corporate control over the Internet they have now over talk radio, and are increasingly displaying on broadcast TV.
