As some of you might know from my previous posts, my little town has a parade every year on the first full weekend of September. It is a celebration of the rural area that I live in and our apple/peach growers (although only a few remain). Anyway, they have a little festival on the grounds of the town's museum (yes we have a history of whaling and boat building too, thus we have a museum in town) that is not far from my house. On Sunday during the festival, we always have a parade with the normal groups participating (elected officials, local clubs and groups, antique tractors, and even horse back riders that aren't attached to anyone in particular)and the parade passes right by my house. Once the parade passes, traffic is usually slowed down to a crawl for hours, giving any sign I place in the yard a great spotlight for all passing traffic trying to get to the festival grounds.
Last year, I placed these two signs in my yard and the response was amazing!
Most people gave a thumbs up, honked their horn, pointed at the signs and you could see the conversation starting in the cars as well. There was one freeper type that started to pull over his car to get out and argue with me (perhaps even to get physical, who knows?) but he was stopped when the woman with him yelled at him to get back in the truck!
So, the parade will be happening this Sunday and I want some ideas of signs that I can put in the yard this year. I think one of them will be a tally board for the deaths in the "War On Terror" that I can update even after the day of the parade. But I have more boards painted white and ready for a powerful message.
What should it be this year DU? Help me out here please.
