Random thought I'm having about "Path to 9-11"

I'm starting to think that possibly, ABC knew it had a loser of a movie on it's on its hands.

Think about it, "United 93" and "World Trade Center" both tanked. I mean come on, lets face it, mass amounts of people are not going to turn out to watch that kind of a depressing movie to begin with. It's akin to watching a movie on the Exxon Valdez disaster. It's an event that is best remembered somberly by an individual in their own different way, and not through someone else's recollections, or biases. The poor box office and critical response to these has shown it.

By the time they saw the numbers on its two predecessors, they had already invested way too much time and money into it to simply cut their losses.

How would you get people to tune in? Deliberately stir up a controversy. Do stuff like only letting right wing bloggers distribute it, or deliberately insert inflammatory anti-Clinton fantasy scenes, or anything else you can think of to make a non partisan event that that affected everyone that day, extremely divisive. Anything just to make sure that someone, ANYONE, would watch it. Especially if you are competing against the opening of football season.

I think they're trying to run "Flight 93" on tv but I'm not gonna watch that drivel.

4. United 93 went to video very quickly.

I had no desire to see either, as I have been "9-11'ed" half to death.

3. But "The Path to 9/11" is being run in prime time, not in...

a movie theatre. It's there for all to see.

7. Product placement, among other things.

It was made for TV.

The whole damn thing will have product placement, plugs for different commercial enterprises, subliminal crap inserted in the background, not to mention the RNC money dumped into it just to advertise the GOP.

Hell, the movie itself is just one big commercial. That's why it's doomed. No one wants to be depressed AND sold a bunch of crap.

6. It's too damn early to trot this stuff out, it's too raw

A lot of people are still grieving. Others are trying to move on in a country that's gone temporarily (I hope) insane. They don't need to have this stuff dragged out, they don't need to be reminded of the shock followed by the numbness followed by rage and misplaced patriotism.

Besides, reviewers have said the thing is not only a pack of lies, it's a plodding pack of lies with no payoff.

It's a movie only David Horowitz could love. I sincerely hope he's locked in a cell somewhere and they play it 24 hours a day for him.

8. I think they misunderestimated the blowback.

They still think Dems are going to roll over and play dead. They thought conservatives would fight fang and claw to keep the movie as is.

Disney, ABC, they're wrong. I'm sure many many people will tune in, but I also think the impact is gone.
