Rice to mark 9/11 in Canada

Rice to mark 9/11 in Canada
Sep. 8, 2006. 01:12 PM
CANADIAN PRESS

HALIFAX — U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit Nova Scotia next week to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay confirmed today that Rice will spend Monday in Halifax and then travel to his riding in Pictou County on Tuesday.

MacKay said he and Rice had discussed the possibility of her coming to Nova Scotia since they first met.

“The fifth year anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy seemed an appropriate occasion,” said MacKay.

“Ms. Rice had indicated in a very personal way that she would like to come to Atlantic Canada and express appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the American people.” ..........

10. I'd really appreciate it if you re-worded that...
To be fair, you quoted the original CBC.ca headline word for word, so I'm not really accusing you of anything nasty. However, I seriously dislike how the headline is worded, and I (as well as a lot of my Canuck mates) have emailed the Ceeb complaining about it.

The body of the piece gives some clarity:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2006/09/07/911poll.html

Canadians believe blowback can and/or will happen due to shitty foreign policy (and not just US foreign policy. Ask the Russians re: Chechnya, or consider the fun Israel has been having for the past four decades...it's kinda' the way terrorist fundy wackjobs operate). The way that headline is worded makes it sound like we were dancing in the streets on 9.11, as in: "you got yours". That's just absurd.

Anyway, sorry about the thread derail. :)

13. too late to edit. Sorry. I was just quoting the headline, as you said
nothing nefarious intended. I'm sorry. (again)

I agree with you about the headline..and I agree that shitty foreign policy brings the chickens home to roost

3. Am I wrong?
This sounds more like a date than a diplomatic mission.

How much $ would we have to raise to get Canada to keep her there?

5. Excuse me Condi
but the 9-11 Attack happened in the USA, not Canada. Shouldn't the Secretary of State and former National Security Adviser consider staying in DC or NYC to commemorate the event?

Another BushCo coward.

7. I'm sure her excuse is that she wants to thank the fine people
of Nova Scotia for their hospitality in dealing with so many suddenly grounded American planes and their passengers on that day--setting up shelters, taking them into their homes, providing them with information and means of communicating their safety to their loved ones, and essentially housing and feeding them until they could return from whence they came.

It's a nice gesture, but it could have been done sometime in the five years before this.

I wonder if any local community theatres up there are putting on a production of Spamalot for her to watch.

8. Canada arrests war criminals, right?
She should be put in shackles as soon as she sets foot in Halifax.
