We did a great job. It was a flawless day. We are an outstanding world-class team. Great set of folks here working on Altlantis. Excellent team work. Great countdown. No concerns.

Let's hope they get them back safely.

2. That's where the 'no concern' answer came from. A reporter asked
about the foam, that was the reply.

4. Why don't they use a gel instead of foam?
Oh, wait...

I'm thinking of contraceptives.

Never mind.

5. Is that a rocket in your pocket?
Or are you just glad to see me?

My first thoughts were of contraception as well. Great (or twisted) minds think alike! :)

6. Seriously though... what about designing the foam to be jetisoned...
a second or two before launch?

Instead of applying it directly to the external tank, what if it were applied to a layer of canvas or plastic which was affixed to the tank using velcro?

Then, a second or two before launch, they'd activate a set of winches that would yank the insulation off in between two or four pieces.

3. It is a beautiful day here today
and I watched the launch from my back yard - it was awesome and I hope they are successful and safe. It is the third shuttle launch I have seen - two from the beach and one from my back yard. I mostly can't stand it here in FL because I am in a VERY RED area - I love the weather and being close to the beach - but I have to say being able to see the shuttle take off from my back yard is pretty damn cool.
