Our Gas Is Down Again - 2.299 - amazing
It is dropping every nite now. I hate to fill up because I know it will be lower by morning.

I don't think it will help the election, tho.

3. Still around $2.96 here........
of course I'm in New York State, we have one of the highest fuel taxes in the country. You "red staters" get all the breaks. ;)

which is ok by me, actually.

24. We're still $3.25 in the blue city of Chicago for regular. I don't
mind paying it, but it pisses me off that in so many other places in the country, it's in the low $2 range. We have high gas taxes, but not THAT high. Something tells me the disparity is intentional.

significantly. But I haven't had a chance to read any recent news on this.

12. They say there's a "glut" now.
Lower than expected usage during the summer months, more refineries back on-line down south. Gee, it just happens to coincide with election time too. Amazing, isn't it? ;)

6. I'm just wondering
if there is any correlation of gas prices dropping and close congressional elections. Although I haven't checked lately - our gas prices are down but not really drastically - and I'm in a VERY RED area....hmmm just makes me wonder

and now are below $2.55. It could be a steeper drop to be sure but it is substantial.

18. Diesel is about the same here in DFW
LostinVA, are you using a fuel additive? I put in Diesel Kleen last week when I filled up and I can already tell it's increased my mileage. Plus the engine is shifting much smoother now, not that it was rough before, but it's smoother.

The Diesel Kleen is only $5 or $6 for a 32 oz bottle, and I put in about 6 oz I think (it was a guesstimate).

The price of diesel isn't bothering me so much, since I'm going 2-3 weeks before fill ups. The best purchase I've made. The GM of the dealership I work at was trying to get me to trade in my Beetle last week. :) I turned him down. If hell froze over and I really thought or needed to get rid of the Beetle, I'd ebay it first. We had an 06 Beetle TDI traded in a couple of weeks ago (they needed something bigger and went with the 2.5L Jetta), and they ended up selling it to a guy in CA for $24,500 (around that, before TT&L).

13. Big Oil is manipulating gas prices
There are only two reasons for the price of gas falling so precipitously: election year politics and the price of heating oil going through the roof.

I read an article recently (I wish I remembered where) that said gas prices are going to take quite a dip this fall. Surprise.

19. Is this too cynical?
On September 5th, the day after Labour day and the unofficial start of the 2006 election campaign, Chevron announces a major discovery of oil in the |Gulf of Mexico. This can represent a 50% boost in US reserves.

Am I being too cynical when I think that these numbers will be revised downward after the election??

Probably not cynical enough. That oil won't be around until 2012
It's also not a proven find. They have to go through 7,000 feet of water and 20K feet below the sand to get at it - if it's as big as they say. It's a big find in the US, but doesn't make all that huge a dent when compared to our consumption. I think they estimated it to potentially increase US production by close to 50% (if true), but we only make 11% of what we use. The rest is imported. We need to go electric and fast.

29. Low prices only in GOP competitive areas
Ohio, Michigan, Missouri and others. Everyone else is stuck paying higher prices.

Even here in Ohio, the prices are lowest in NE Ohio, higher in other parts of the state.

Wonder why the news media doesn't report on that?

31. That has been my take on this. We should check out this theory
using DU.

Want to do it??? Or should I? It is your idea.

See my post about Virginia Beach gas prices and two hotly contested races.

33. Well I actually suggested this in post number 6
Maybe we should start a new thread and do a specific survey? I'm beginning to think there is definitely a correlation - if we find one maybe we could contact someone like Keith Olberman or someobody who might actually take us seriously.....

30. $2.25-$2.35 low in Virginia Beach, VA--we have 2 hotly contested
races:

Thelma Drake (Bushbot) vs. Phil Kellam--Kellam ahead by about 8 points at last count

George Felix (Macaca) Allen (idiot and bigot) vs. Jim Webb--Webb ahead by about 1 point
