Need a recommendation for a book to read

I'll be traveling tomorrow to Cleveland from Boston. The flight is about two hours. I'm going to the IBEW Convention there.

I want a nice anti-Bush book, preferably about Iraq.

I'll buy it tonight.

1. I love any book that's anti-Bush, but this time, louis c, I'm going to

recommend a pre-Bush book:

DEMOCRACY by Joan Didion.

It's needle-sharp and covers a lot of ground. The CIA is involved. The romance is persuasive, too.

Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq by Thomas Ricks, a WaPo reporter. I just got my copy today. Looks good.

5. "[N]ice anti-Bush book" - The Bible

Pretty much cover to cover it's anti-Bush. Well, at least his policies.

7. My three top reads of the "season"

Looming Tower (about 9/11 but the history of the terrorists...the history of the jihadists is not exactly as you know it. Reads like a thriller. Compelling.)

Fiasco. Great read, couldn't put it down. I'm not sure I agree with his conclusions of what we should do now...but that's just the last page and doesn't detract from all the information in the book. Tommy Franks is a bigger creep than I thought! As is Bremer. This pulls more about Iraq together than other books (Assassin's Gate and 1% solution focus more on the political stuff going on around Iraq and Cobra II focuses more on boots on the ground in Iraq. All three are great but I like this best for all around info.)

Conservatives Without Conscience by Dean. It was like a self help book to me. I had always thought I could communicate with these new republicans if just given the chance. After reading the book, I gave up hope and am moving on to other things. I don't mean to sound as thought I've given up hope on America or politics, but it is a lot less frustrating to realize these people just don't think like we do so instead of trying to understand and work with them, we should ignore and marginalize them. Fascinating.

This is not in order...I'd be hard pressed to recommend just one.

(I also loved Assassin's Gate but its a tad "old news" and I'm dying to read Hubris. Its my intention to pick it up this evening.)

8. Read an unfriendly biography of Karl Rove, by Moore and Slater

I browsed it at a bookstore yesterday. Revealed in one of many chapters is a bizarre family pathology that may well explain Rove's ruthlessness and fascination with homosexuality. His father left the family for another man when Karl was a child, and his mother subsequently committed suicide. Very likely there was no causal connection between the two evens, except in Karl's increasingly sick mind.

12. Another good one and fairly quick to read is

RFK Jr's Crimes Against Nature. Full of good info and talking points. Both are relevant for current discussion, but if you want something on Iraq (I think you mentioned that upthread) maybe 1% Solution by Suskind or Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq by Thomas Ricks (as other DUers have suggested upthread). I haven't read either yet; but they're on my reading list.
