My suggestion for what to do during ABC's national mind-fuck
Go treat yourself to an amazing movie, "The Illusionist". I just got back from seeing it and it is one of the most astonishing movies I've ever seen. Set in late 19th Century Vienna (shot in Prague) stars Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton and a superb British and Czech cast. It's all here: love, sex, death, revenge, set against a corrupt monarchy. The music, photography and acting are not to be believed.

It's way better than watching ABC/Disney take a safari into Clinton's shorts.

2. CBS is showing a real documentary.
They are showing the film shot by the Frenchmen who were following around the rookie fireman. With presentday followups.

6. Actually there are 2 football games on
Sunday and Monday night. I think the football will end up with better ratings, I know that's what I'll watch, and I don't even like football that much.

ABC owns ESPN. Don't give ABC the ratings.

7. And Ted Koppel on Discovery is another option on Sunday:
Watch Ted Koppel's "Price of Security" Sunday, instead of "Path to 9/11"

ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL

... Airing Sunday, Sept. 10, at 8 p.m. EDT, it begins with a 90-minute documentary, "The Price of Security," in which (Ted) Koppel interviews current and former administration members as well as military and security experts to examine challenges still facing the government in its war on terrorism.

(90-minute "town meeting" follows, for total of 3-hour program)

... One side of the largely sidetracked debate holds that America would be altered forever by another 9/11-scale attack, and that no measures are too drastic to prevent a terrorist's use against the U.S. of a weapon of mass destruction. This fear has largely driven post-9/11 policy — "the conviction of the president and his top aides that they are up against this existential threat, and that they have to avoid it at all costs," Koppel told The Associated Press recently.

On the other side, he says, are those who argue "that America is great because it hews to a set of standards and laws that theoretically, at least, apply equally to everyone. And that once you start to play around with that system, you undermine the very thing that makes us what we are."

It could be a case of destroying America in order to save it, that argument might hold — "and in the long run," Koppel adds, "more damaging to America than even another terrorist attack."

8. Going to a party for local Blues Society
Michael Burks is playing and he's really good. And I know a couple of the partners in the establishment where we'll be gathering and told them if even one TV is tuned to that crap, they may see a mass walkout and people never returning. They both assured me that football will be on all TV's.

14. It's NFL opening week, that's what I'll be watching.
On both Sunday and Monday while this propaganda piece plays, I will be watching football. I would be watching football even if they played a version that told the truth. I think many others will be doing the same on both sides of the political aisle.

WOW! Fantastic film. Way cool! Can you tell I loved it? A friend mentioned this morning that she had really enjoyed it so I got myself over there, barely knowing anything about it. So worthwhile.
