Help Plan Stage II: The Attack on Disney beginning September 12th
From AmericaBlog

by John in DC - 9/09/2006 06:27:00 PM

I've talked with some of the other organizers of the anti-Disney/ABC campaign, and we've decided, quite rightly, that if Disney/ABC runs this defamatory show tomorrow night, we are launching an all-out war against both companies. I'd like to start the discussion going, with your input, as to what the next steps should be, possible actions, etc.

Some thoughts:

1. Legal component.

Clearly Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, Madeleine Albright and American Airlines have good cause to sue Disney/ABC, the BBC, Australian and New Zealand television, and any local affiliate that broadcasts the show. How can we further help their lawsuit? I think a first step is paying close attention in each country to how the show is being marketed. Get us copies of ads, promotions, etc. that show local broadcasters and others promoting the show as true and non-fiction. How else can we help their suit?

2. Legislative.

Clearly Disney/ABC has a lot of legislation before congress that they care about. I already know of one telecom bill by Senator McCain that they're mortified of - the Consumers Having Options in Cable Entertainment (CHOICE) Act of 2006. I propose that we start a nationwide grassroots campaign to get that bill passed. What other legislation can we push to ensure that companies like Disney/ABC never again try to unethically influence an American election?

3. File broadcast standards complaints.

We can do this in New Zealand and any other country that has such a broadcast standards board (and which airs the show - Canada? Australia? UK?) Basically, they have a board that ensure that TV broadcasts are fair, balanced, and accurate.

much more at the link above... head on over and see if you can help.

8. I live an hour from the Mouse.
It is all sweltering lines and overpriced food.

My last child just turned 7 and we have visited for the last time (thank goodness). We are really coaster people anyway - we like Busch Gardens better.

3. I think the Democrats should take it 'way beyond Mickeyville.

They can make the whole Right Wing Echo Chamber damned sorry they ever conceived this packet of lies.

The Democrats need to turn the Path to 9-11 (henceforth PT911) story to their advantage, and they can do it if they play their cards right. They have nearly 2 months after September 11. In today’s world of 20-second attention spans, that's enough time for a shark attack story, another bogus child-killer story & 1 or 2 girl-in-vegetative-state stories. 9-11 isn't going to be anywhere near the center of public consciousness anymore by Nov 7, but the Democrats can make sure the Big Lie story is still there.

If they’re smart, the Democrats will "pull a Rove" and turn the PT911 story into a story about the falsification, just as Rove did with the AWOL story in 2004. The Democrats have the substantial advantage that truth is on their side in this matter, but they must stay on-message. They need to meet every Right-wing lie and distortion with the accusation that the Republicans are trying to do another PT911.

Despite their demonstrable conservative bias in coverage, the media have to show a Democrat talking every once in a while, just to maintain some pretense of fairness. The Democrats should keep slipping in the message PT911 and the Lie Machine. The objective is to turn PT911 into a synonym for Right-Wing Propaganda.

The timing couldn't be better for the Democrats, really--if they play it right. Just as the Republicans are starting to ramp up the propaganda machine, their first big lie out of the box gets exposed as a total piece of crap. This is a teachable moment. The public is more ready than ever to let go of their idealized portrait of the Bushies and let the scales fall from their eyes. Let every subsequent right-wing Swiftboat attack be met with the "Just Another Pathetic PT911" meme.

4. Your suggestions are all good ones. But I think the people who are
being sladered in this film have the best chance of hurting them.

5. check out this from AmericaBlog's comment section:
Complain to those who were falsely defamed in the ABC show.

I'm with those who suggested calling American Airlines after the show airs and complaining about their negligence in letting Atta on the plane in spite of the warning they got. Reference the ABC show when you call. Tell them you won't be flying them any more.

Likewise, complain to the Washington Post about their shameful exposure of our intelligence methods, as revealed by the ABC show. Tell them that you will be cancelling your subscription.

If the Post and American Airlines want to successfully sue ABC, they will have to demonstrate that they have suffered damages. Outraged customers complaining and declaring that they have become ex-customers is about as obvious as you can get as far as damages.

What do y'all think of this idea? It is original, but is it plausible?

13. great idea!!
any effective campaign has to include a loss of profit......it could be very effective!!

Since the show will not have sponsors, this is just as good!

7. Who here has the will to reject all things ABC and Disney.
I do. I've already removed ABC from my remote. (I don't have cable).

No more Lost. No more Grey's Anatomy. No more Scrubs.

My daughter is going to kill me.

The only way we are going to win is by making sacrifices. Focus on the Family knows this and that is why their insanity now dominates U.S. culture.

9. I have already un-DVR'd everything.
I will miss Martha's new season. But the re-runs will show up on cable eventually. Plus she has a lot of video segments on her website.

removed all ABC programming from my dvr and told the local affliliate so as another poster suggested.

i also told them i was inserting a paragraph in my will to warn my descendants not to buy into rw lies such as theirs. I consider the fight against the rw to be a generational struggle.

12. I do.
We began our personal boycott of ABC/Disney nearly two years ago when ABC ran a despicable 1-hour smear job of Matthew Shepard (re-writing the history of his brutal murder, turning the tables on Shepard, suggesting he was a Meth user and his murder was not a hate crime but just a drug-related robbery-gone-bad. Fucking ABC ignored thousands who protested and even cut and edited Matthew's mom's interview, making her look silly and inept.

We got rid of any Disney DVDs and merchandise we had in our home and have not watched ABC since. We don't miss Disney or ABC one bit. Life is sweet without their miasmatic presence in our lives.

11. I've hated ABC/Disney programming for (at least) 5 yrs!!!
It began when they cancelled Sports Night without reason and also when they cancelled Politically Incorrect!!

And most of what is on ABC now is pure crap!! Mostly canned sitcoms which benefit no one.

If you guys wanna attack Disney, I do too!!! I would love to show them that the viewers are still the boss! Or in ABC's case, the lack of viewers are the boss.

I think Disney was a reputable company before Walt died but now it's just about the bucks. They don't care about people, just about the money........
