September 11 is now called "Patriot Day?"
We have several wall calendars - freebies from National Wildlife Federation and a local bird seeds supplier. And September 11 is labeled as "Patriot Day."

Since when? Was this by act of Congress, or is it just a grassroots movement?

P.S. - I am just asking a question. No "flame bait" that calls for locking a thread. Please?

2. Thanks. I can't help thinking about that phrase
of patriotism being the last refuge of the scoundrel..

It says that it is to honor the victims of 911. But they were not patriots. They never considered themselves patriots. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

3. My husband just said the same thing.
I totally missed this one.

I am so sick of all of this. I just want it all to go away.

25. Mortal Wound to Democracy Day
9/11 was the pretext for a reversal and overthrow of our representational democracy. I see nothing to celebrate.

4. There's only one Patriot's Day.
"On the 18th of April in '75,
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year."

Patriot's Day is now, and always will be April 19th, no matter what they try to tell us.

10. Naming days, weeks, and months is a congressional passtime
I wish I could think of a good reference, but I read an article once about all the various "days of rememberance". There are hundreds, including months of this or that. Very easy to get through congress, apparently. Most pass unnoticed into history.

23. A good way for "resume building"
Why try to come with a meaningful piece of legislation, when you can easily pass a law naming dates and places?

26. Yes, oh dear it says that on my kid's Dora the Explorer calender
Maybe next year I will check first. My Oregon nature and Picasso -it's one of those multi language ones-do not say that. Must be up to the publisher.

Nothing like having your governement fail and decieve you and use your fear and grief to make you feel like a patriot, is there?
