Rumsfeld connects Iraq to 9-11 in a letter to Stars and Stripes

Basically, Rummy connects everything bad that has ever happened to the US to Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond, his attempt to expand the war, imo. It's ironic, though, that with all the fear mongering mind control Rummy, Cheney and Bush have perpetrated against Americans, these "Warren Jeffs" of PA Ave. are now the ones running scared. Their lies have finally caught up with them.

Addressing the nation just days after the attacks of Sept. 11, President Bush told members of America’s armed forces, “Be ready. … The hour is coming when America will act, and you will make us proud.”

You have proved him right.

Since that fateful hour, more than 1 million men and women wearing our nation’s uniform have been deployed in dangerous and distant theaters in an unprecedented global campaign. Because of your work, the men who plotted those attacks are dead, captured or on the run. More than 50 million people are free in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their governments are no longer allies of the enemies. Because you have taken the fight to the enemy away from our shores, it has made it that much more difficult for them to strike us again at home.

...

It is tempting to think of Sept. 11 as the beginning of the conflict that you have been fighting these past five years. But in fact, while 9/11 may have marked the beginning of this global struggle against violent extremists, the war against the United States, our allies, our interests, our values, and our way of life had been declared and waged years earlier by the terrorists with attacks on our cities, our embassies, our airliners, and on our military.

But the loss of so much, by so many, on that bright morning five years ago was a searing reminder to our nation that the threats of extremists and fanatics cannot be wished away or pacified. It was also a reminder of the inner strength of a nation that the terrorists may have written off as soft, cynical and unwilling to fight.

...

For some of you, it may be years before your accomplishments and the magnitude of the contribution you have made and the lives you have saved become fully known. And while often it may seem that the focus is on America’s failings rather than its promise, never forget that America is not what is wrong with the world.

2. Its publication is overseen by the DoD
and that woman who promoted the staged teleconference between Bush and some hand-picked military public affairs people in Iraq.
