1. Please note that JESUS NEVER CRITICIZED DONALD RUMSFELD

And as far as I know, Jesus never mentioned evolution or global warming either, but He did condemn homosexuals by not saying anything good about them.

2. Hah! I like them both.
I'm enjoying humor every chance I get throughout this emotional few days -- actually it's been a pretty rough couple of weeks for me but not nearly so bad as it is for many others. Specifically those like fellow DUer Wiley who suffered terrible losses on 9/11 and afterward due to it. (My heartfelt sympathy and support go out to all who were profoundly affected personally by the attacks five years ago ... I'm thinking of all of you today!)

Still, it's been a fairly rough time for others of us, too, and I'm one of 'em. Found myself wiping two big ole tears that rolled down my face as the group Boyz2Men sang "America The Beautiful" in lovely harmony before today's U.S. Open mens finals match that began a little while ago. I think it's moments like that, ones which catch us totally off guard when we think we're doing fine, that are sometimes the hardest for us.

Sooo ... I've done quite a few things during this past week to keep my spirits up, including focussing on some heartening, positive threads here at DU, just reading and enjoying my fellow members here that I've come to relate to in many ways as family. Then yesterday morning very early I bought a new bicycle I've been trying to resist purchasing ever since this spring, knowing my biking days may be very limited in number and intensity due to my disabled state from old injuries and surgeries. I woke up and decided, "Hey, I really need something to get excited about in a good way, something to rev me up and get me involved in making some positive changes in my life!"

It's done me a world of good just to learn that I can still make the wheels go 'round pretty damn well for a 57-year-old retiree. :) I'm sore as hell, of course, but I didn't overdo it; and I anticipate a slow but steady progress toward better fitness that always makes me feel so good emotionally as well as physically and even helps me to deal with life's challenges a lot better. Sometimes I think I tend to forget to simply do the things that work to help myself up out of low periods in my life.

Had a great three-hour phone talk with a very dear longterm friend of mine late last night, too, and that did wonders for me! He's always smart and usually funny and more often than not he lifts my spirits when we talk. Last night we had a riproaring good time taking some goodnatured verbal potshots at his fundie family (out of their earshot, of course). They constantly confound us because they're really such good people in so many ways, are not nearly as hypocritical as a great many "church people" we know, and do good things for Jay on a daily basis without asking for anything in return. He's had a very hard life, due to no fault of his own (or theirs); and we know he's a very fortunate guy to have them in his life now when he needs them most.

But they're FUNDIES!! Hardcore, diehard fundies and Dubya devotees who cannot understand why some people loathe the man so and criticize him fiercely and often. Arghh! Worst of all, IMO, they openly express ideas that routinely appall us, such as the statement the dad made a few weeks ago when gas prices hit their recent peak:

"I really don't care how high gas prices get or what else happens in politics in this country as long as we can make abortions illegal again."

And this from people who are slipping slowly downward from a reasonably good middle class lifestyle with every passing month! They're very hardworking and don't complain, but they also don't have any savings or financial cushion to protect them if they should miss a paycheck or two in a row.

So I'm going to send the toon re fundies to Jay knowing he will probably share it with them, and we'll all have a good laugh (yes they can laugh at themselves) ... and Jay and I will hope just MAYBE it will help to AWAKEN these people and sway them from their wrongheaded beliefs. Ya just never know when something will finally penetrate the armor of baseless faith in the criminals in charge in the White House such people have, due to their belief in the Chimperor's "Christian efforts for our country."

Sorry for my musing aloud about all these things, but there are times when I simply enjoy sharing bits of my life with my fellow DUers! ;)

Thanks for the toons! I'm glad you decided to "round up the strays" on your computer and share them with us. :hi:
