Path to 9-11 and the Swift Boaters. I'm seeing pattern.
This may be pointing out the obvious to many but there is a definite pattern emerging with the Republicans and how they're attempting to hold onto power. In 2004, in August I believe, they came out with the Swift Boat liars. Basically they transferred all of Bush's cowardice and incompetence during the Vietnam War and transferred it onto Kerry.
Now, in September of 2006, they come out with Path to 9-11. And again, it takes all of Bush's incompetence and ineptitude and transfers it onto Clinton. This is how Republicans play the game. They rely on the ignorance and laziness of many Americans to not go looking for the truth. So far it has paid off for them. I don't think it's going to last forever though.
How do we stop this? Simple, in my book. They need to be sued. Kerry should have sued the Swift Boat liars. I don't know if he was trying to take the high road or be a gentleman or what. But he didn't sue, and they got away with it. The Republicans learned that they could tell the most outrageous lie and basically transfer their own candidates faults onto a Democrat and get away with it.
That can't happen this time. Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, and everyone else defamed by this slimeball piece of filmmaking need to stand up and put a stop to this. And they also need to start doing their own versions of this kind of thing. I don't mean they have to lie, all they have to do is tell the truth. Where are the wealthy liberal organizations funding our own Path to 9-11? They don't have to rely on projection and slander like the Republicans do. All they have to do is tell the truth.

9-11 HAPPENED ON BUSH"S WATCH. HE WAS WARNED MANY TIMES ABOUT THE DANGER BUT SAT ON HIS ASS ON VACATION AND DID NOTHING. EVEN AFTER THE ATTACK HE STILL SAT ON HIS ASS READING A CHILDREN'S BOOK AND DID NOTHING.

1. Defamatory
Albright used the word "defamatory." Aside from it's regular meaning, it has a specific legal meaning. I hope she'll follow up on it. And I hope Berger wins the shirts off some of these liars backs. Bastards.

6. Well, she's right about the MSM
What she doesn't realize is the O'Reilly IS THE MSM. He's one of the highest paid people in the MSM today, and one of the most imitated.

10. "The truth is what WE say it is!"
That's the pattern.

Kerry could have thrown a spanner in the works if he'd been smart enough to sue. No, winning wasn't the point. Tracing the money was the point. Tying up their resources was the point. Exhausting them fighting lawyers was the point.

Now we have to hope Clinton, Albright, Berger, and other people libeled by this exercise in propaganda will sue. It's a perfect opportunity because this thing has been shown in the UK. They can WIN there.

22. How do you think it would have helped if Kerry sued
The suit would not have been heard until after the election. (The alternative would be worse - Kerry needed to do what he did in September - November. Also, consider that the people who wrote the book had avadavids from the people they talked into joining. Is it possible that that could make it harder to prove that they knew the stuff was not true?

Losing the case would have been devastating - Kerry's records are his records - he is a man of honor and integrity. That, even more than future elections, was one of the reasons given by his friends in disproving all of the lies.

24. Subpoena power
Before a case goes to trial, all relevant documents are subpoenaed. He could have tied the smear guys up in legal knots as they attempted to protect the paper trail leading to the White House. He could have tied up cash they were going to use producing slicker and slicker character assassination ads. He could have distracted them, to say the least.

You see, going in front of a judge and winning a case is not always the point. Exhausting an opponent and depleting his cash can be the points.

Corporations know that. It's why they pursue SLAPP suits that have no chance of winning in court. They just want to shut whistleblowers and truth tellers up. And it works.

25. There was no tying up cash for the swifts, and distracting Kerry from the
campaign to fight them instead of talking about the issues is exactly what they wanted.

Play it out your way - Kerry directs even more attention to Swifts - what REALLY would have happened? Media would have made Kerry's increased targeting of the swifts into ANOTHER negative story - one against his mental health or his ego.

"Kerry seems to be campaigning against the swiftvets more than George Bush."

"Kerry is so obsessed with the swiftvets, some Democrats are worried it has overtaken the presidential campaign."

"Kerry campaign planned to talk about jobs at Ohio rally, but presscorps was consumed with the latest exchange between the lawyers over the Swiftvets."

"Kerry's ego is so caught up in the myth of his heroism, he can't handle that myth being punctured by other vets who served with him."

Seriously - -we all know this is EXACTLY what the corpmedia would have spun with GLEE.

12. Oh - since FDR
They tried to smear him as a communist and every other horrible thing, they still are. They've been doing this forever, those of us who came up in the 60's had just never really seen it in action and it's taken a while for us to "get it". Hopefully the next generation won't be bamboozled as long, having seen it repeated from Clinton to Gore to Cleland to Kerry and back to Clinton again.

14. Actually, it started with Clinton - there were at least 8 books that came
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 07:04 PM by blm
out after 9-11 blaming Clinton and Clinton never answered any of the charges against him that were made. Some of these books spawned Path to 9-11.

Clinton failing to counter these books led to the meme that Dems are weak on terror that every Dem candidate running in 2002 and 2004 endured and without Clinton standing up a defense, they could hardly be expected to garner the level of press to do it for him.

THAT is what led to the swifts.

I posted this a couple days ago.

And how many of these authors and "journalists" were given significant airtime?

And how many press conferences and lawsuits did Clinton launch to answer the charges?

If you're wondering WHY every Democratic candidate has been stuck fighting the GOP meme that Democrats are weak on terror, it's BECAUSE Clinton never answered these charges for the FIVE YEARS they have existed. THAT gave ABC the cover to launch this movie.

Here's a list of some titles I found.

DERELICTION OF DUTY, by Robert “Buzz” Patterson. (Regnery Publishing, 2003) A top Clinton military aide’s “eyewitness” account of how Bill Clinton compromised America’s national security.

BETRAYAL, by Bill Gertz. (Regnery Publishing, 1999) The Washington Times defense reporter explains “how the Clinton administration undermined American security.”

BREAKDOWN, by Bill Gertz. (Regnery Publishing, 2002) A reporter for the Washington Times describes how “America’s intelligence failures led to 9/11.”

USEFUL IDIOTS, by Mona Charen. (Regnery Publishing, 2003) The columnist and television commentator goes on the attack against liberals who “got it wrong in the cold war and still blame America first.”

THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT GUIDE TO AMERICAN HISTORY, by Thomas Woods. (Regnery Publishing, 2004) A conservative interpretation.

SHADOW WAR, by Richard Miniter. (Regnery Publishing, 2004) The author argues that President Bush is winning the war on terror.

LOSING BIN LADEN, by Richard Miniter. (Regnery Publishing, 2003) How—on multiple occasions—Bill Clinton allowed bin Laden to slip through his fingers.

FIGHTING BACK, by Bill Sammon. (Regnery Publishing, 2002) A reporter for The Washington Times recounts the White House’s actions in response to 9/11.

20. Republican lies are treated as legitmate, "alternative viewpoints"
as in, the Swiftboaters weren't unapologetic liars, they were just concerned citizens with a "alternate viewpoint" on Kerry's military service.

And the directors and producers and writers of P2911 aren't propagandists, they just have an "alternative viewpoint" on how things happened.
