This isn't about the decades or centuries long fight between "the West" and Islam. Nor about any two factions contemporaneously.

This day is about 3000+ (when you factor in the later deaths from respiratory diseases) dead.

Why not just run the names in a scroll--I know some network did that a few years back, and that was both sad and dignified and honorable.

I know that's so many people even a short word about each would be impossible--how about a randomly drawn hundred each Sept 11th, and let someone close to them say a few things about each one? He liked fishing and made the best french toast ever, and I miss him. She was the love of my life and nothing will ever replace her.

Why not make it about the fallen--and not about their deaths, but about their lives and what joy they brought to the world? Instead it's about one more chance for rich white men in suits to say "Al Qaeda" and "Iraq" in the same few sentences.

I lost two people in 9-11 and that moment of silence is respectful mourning for them and the thousands of other people who died that day.

To ruin that just to scream at Bush is reprehensible. Scream at Bush any other time you want, but 9-11 is to remember those who lost their lives. Their friends. Their family members. On that day.

A quick review of American popular culture ghost stories will convince you that the dead do not rest until their murderer is brought to justice. Yet Bin Laden is free to plot and plan another massacre.

I think a more apt remark during the moment of silence would be "Where is Bin Laden."

The massacred thousands of 9/11 must know that brush removed our soldiers from Saudi Arabia just like Bin Laden wanted. They know brush protected the oil fields of Iraq and removed their offending Shiite leader of the country, just like Bin Laden wanted. It must bother the dead to hear the president of the United States quote Bin Laden in speeches as if the terrorist were a hero.

No I think the dead would cheer if someone would rebel against making their murderer a legend.
