How will a Democratic win affect bush's global war on terror?
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 05:56 AM by Philosoraptor
Will it shorten it? Will it extend it? What effect will a Democratic house and senate majority have on bush's glorious war on terra?

I truly do not look forward to Democrats calling for the job to be done.

One hopes that it will hasten an end to the madness, but one is pessimistic.

1. He'll just ignore any laws they pass...
On the grounds that the War on Terror gives him infinite power as Commander-in-Chief.

3. One thing if for sure
Who ever the next president is, they are in for one rough ride regardless of their policy in regards to the war on terror.
Those countries in the world right now that hate us, dont seperate the country from the president, they hate America, just as much as they hate the garden shrub.

the war or its impact will not go away just because the president has changed. It is going to take time.

I think that the country is in for a rough ride security wise for at least another 4 years after the change of power.

6. Right on.One wonders if we will ever get right in the Middle East
We have spent 50 years doing bad things over their. I do not even want to think of the blow back from around the world.

7. We will never get right in the Middle East
They just plain dont like us. It is their religion to not like anyone that does not follow their theology.

the best we could ever hope for is that they just silently hate us and go about their business.
The fact is that if they ever did launch an all out attack on the U.S, they would be extinct, they know this.

I do think that with the proper leadership, and some really intense talks, the countries could agree to disagree and leave each other to their own way of government. But it would take the U.S and all other countries to just plain leave them alone and stop trying to turn them into little Americas.

Another problem I see in the distant future is to do with oil, not as you would think.
I dont think it will be a fight over who gets it, It will be a fight when alternate sources of energy come on line and those middle east countries begin to see their income, and way of life suffer.

Not only will they lash out because they are losing market share in the world, but they will have had many many years of intense financial backing to have built an arsenal of sufficient size and power to launch at least one last strike of desperation.

Oil is, and has been the devils tool for too long now.

9. I think all people want to rule them self and that is how they will go
We slow it down with our backing of these bad rulers. Until we mind our own business they will hate us. They need to be left to do it their own way. They also should be able to say how they will use their owns countries goods. Trouble is we get rich on them and that is hard to give up. We can never put back into the bottle the thoughts of man ruling himself and it has been moving around the world for over 200 years and it will also come to the Middle East. So I think.

4. I would hope for investigations into high crimes
and misdemeaners. If not, probably not much effect or return to the constitution, just some tweaking. We must remain vigilent.

5. Hopefully...
It will make him run it more intelligently (which would not be that hard since he's run it about as stupidly as humanly possible), more internationally (ie using allies) and with more accountability (I'd still love to know what happened to that 8 billion dollars that disappeared under the CPA).

8. Just wait till we get attacked with Democrats in charge.
The shitstorm that will ensue from the right is impossible to imagine. Hell, they already blame the Democrats for attacks that happen with Republicans in charge!

13. I think Bush* will try to pass "poison pill" bills through Congress...
...in an attempt to make us look like we're against certain things. I have confidence in them but I hope they have some strategy mapped out to deal with the fact that although they might control the legislature, the President gets all the free airtime he wants.
