Hillary's interview with Matt Lauer
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 06:42 AM by Tellurian
This morning's interview with nbc host, Matt Lauer, Hillary struck the right
balance of criticism and credit. Criticism of the War on Terror echoing our thoughts;
it has gotten worse because of "copy cat" terrorists. She also mentioned a new trend in
Afghanistan, suicide bombings- To me, the suicide bombings are evidence of the resolve
of the Islamic Fundamentalists. She gave credit to the Fire Departments, Police and Rescue
Services that have endured over these last five years.

It was a pleasure to listen to someone speaking coherently, cogently and offering some
insight into the future of the country without the use of the same tired, meaningless
euphemisms we hear from the present administration. Her tone of voice was perfect. Her
answers were brief and on target.

I hope she runs in 08'...

10. Yes, Bush is definitely flustered by Lauer's questions
even a little combative, refusing to explain the torture techniques
such as water boarding used to interrogate terror suspects.

Lauer is asking the 'hard' questions! yay!

The contrast between Hillary and Bush is amazing..

Do you suppose Bush and Cheney ARE the Rapture?
The minute they start speaking you automatically zone out
and tune out the regurgitated clap trap.

15. I do tune out/trust nothing said by Bush and Cheney - & Laurer and Tim
did ask real questions - albeit the "forceful followup questions" for both were weak or non-existent - but it was certainly the closest either has gotten to "journalism" when dealing with a GOP interview.

As to the rapture - John of the Island's musing re "rapture" were added around 1000 AD to the Bible despite an outcry by folks that thought they did not belong in the Bible.

I do not buy in to the idea of a Rapture, but if I did, I'd still have a hard time seeing Bush and Cheney as the Rapture! :-)

16. Re: Rapture
Lauer definitely came across as fearless when interviewing Bush...
A Great Breath of fresh air-

Tim, by contrast, has been shaking hands with B&C for so long, he's
almost family.

My (poster's license) perception of the Rapture comes from what is commonly known as "deep sea sickness."
When the presence of nitrogen gas overtakes the oxygen content of the body's soft tissue
causing excruciating pain. The Rapture could related to global warming where the
gaseous content of the air could change dramatically causing symptoms similar to the 'bends.'

And if there were any finger pointing.. B&C would definitely be big contributors to a change
in the balance of oxygen in the air we breathe.

But of course, in Biblical times there wasn't any such thing, except for prophecy.

2. I hope Hillary doesn't run. I want the Dems to win in 2008.
It's not that I don't like Hillary, although sometimes I feel she's a bit too reactionary instead of staying ahead of the issues. It's also hard to determine which side of the fence she's on from time to time.

I think she could be a good President if elected, but I think her running would be a wet dream for the GOP. All you have to do is mention her name, and there's an instant debate. We need someone who is clearer on the issues, someone who isn't an instant catalyst for conflict.

Would I vote for Hillary if she were the Democratic candidate? Yes, I would. Absolutely. But I believe 2008 is too important to risk losing. We need a sure fire home run candidate for 2008. Who that would be is debatable at this point, but I don't believe we have the luxury of running a candidate whose name alone is controversial.

3. Perhaps you can explain why she said there were "probably" more terrorists
since we atttacked Iraq. Has she not read the studies that make it plain we are creating more terrorists with our war and occupation in Iraq. Of course, she has. So explain why she feels she must waffle even on this.

4. She's walking the fence. I think that she thinks taking a
position will cost her conservative votes.

7. I think she's taking a conservative approach
and holding her cards close visible only to herself.

Which I believe is a smart strategy.

13. Ah, I can tell
you've never competed in a race or faced a heavy duty challenge-

So, who does the heavy lifting for you?

You can tell me. I won't tell a soul.

12. Equivocating would have perhaps been a better word. Her reluctance to
acknowledge that we have created more terrorists by our war and occupation of Iraq--when it is patently obvious that we have and that are studies to back it up.

14. She did say, there are more terrorists now
she didn't say "we created more terrorists"- but the inference was there.
At least, thats what I understood.

It's common knowledge, dear friend, War does NOT bring Peace!
