1. Cokie's been lurching to the right for years
I guess either she's made enough money whoring herself out to other networks that she actually got a tax cut, or that bastard Tomlinson forced everybody to join the Party or perish as he stacked upper management with RNC drones.

In any case, she lost her street cred as a journalist years ago. She's just another inside the beltway conservative flack.

5. She was brutal this morning on NPR...
Saying things like, all the reminders of 911 are good for GOP elections chances..etc. and that the asshole will have a great OPPORTUNITY to remind Americans who he was right after that day...etc. Leadership, strength......etc.

3. Cokie is not an especially insightful reporter/analyst, or chooses not
to be, one or the other.

In any case she adds very little of true interest on THIS WEEK WITHOUT DAVID BRINKLEY and less than that on her Monday mornig NPR summaries.

She appears to have a casual newspaper reader's grasp of events, tops.

Most of the time on those early Monday morning radio summaries, she sounds as if she's just coming off a 2-day smack binge.

10. But if you're looking for the essence of right-wing conventional wisdom .

And you want it all in an easily digestible pre-greased pellet, she's your "reporter".

:puke:

12. Point taken. I don't mind her viewpoint, since I want mine, but she
doesn't seem to earn hers. William Saffire, the former editorialist for the NYTimes, wrote columns I found politically appalling, but they were thoughtfully crafted. I thought Saffire earned his keep, despite my personal objections to his conclusions and viewpoints.

I'm not a Yankees fan by any means, but I would never argue that Jeter is a bum. I respect his very considerable talent. But I'm still rooting for my team instead.

I just wish Cokie would move on.

4. I think she's too shallow to have an ideology
She's merely an out of touch, inside the beltway snob, concerned only that she receives invitations to the A list cocktail parties. I think she thinks Dems are too common and too, well, icky, for her to associate with.

6. She seems always pretend to lay out "both sides" but then inevitably seeks
to blunt the force of any left wing criticism or position with a vile, mealy-mouthed shrewdness.

11. Well, well - within the last two days someone on DU
questioned why I accused NPR of going/being right wing. What was that person's nickname - I'd like to send this link.

I'm addicted to most of the weekend shows, but even Daniel Shorr turned right.

And NPR is supposed to be a public broadcasting station. Danny Burton, Jessie Helms, and the rest of the right that threatened NPR on behalf of the very religious, very right wing voting bases - WON!

And I remember when she seemed to be neutral. I will always wonder if I woke up or if she was really was ever NPR worthy (the old NPR).

21. I quit them a few years ago. They hold no worth like most
of the corporate media. Therefore, they may as well take the "public" out of public radio.

15. I'm no fan of Roberts, but can we stop with Nazi labelling already?
Jeez, if we aren't articulate enough to formulate criticisms of those with whom we disagree without simply labelling them a "Nazi" we really are becoming more like the freepers. We're better than that and I wish we would show it more often.

17. She's the one who gushed on about Bush's "charm offensive." in 2000
During the 2000 campaign, she reported on the legendary "charm offensive" of Geo. W. Bush and how he would use it to (1) unite the nation; and (2) get people to do what he wanted.

Well, he got Osama to do what he wanted. As for uniting the nation...

18. Don't forget her roots
She hardly is a born and bred conservative...her father was Hale Boggs, a former Democrat Leader of the House from Georgia, as I recall. After his death, his widow Lindy Boggs filled out the remainder of his term. Cokie has deep political roots, and is not just a "journalist".

19. Cokie took it out on Clinton for Mr. Cokie's affair(s) w/young women
Had a friend in Columbia's School of Journalism when Cokie was frothing at the mouth regularly and with extreme moral rightousness over the Clinton-Lewinsky brouhaha. The scuttlebut in the journalism field was that Cokie's hubby had screwed around with not one, but two interns, and Cokie was projecting on Clinton all her seething rage at her husband.
