1. I think the problem is you don't know the meaning of "neoliberalism."
From Wikipedeia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism

Neoliberalism is a term for a a school of economy and/or political movement which has became increasingly important in international economic policy discussions from the 1970s onwards.

In its dominant international use, neoliberalism refers to a political-economic philosophy that de-emphasizes or rejects government intervention in the domestic economy. It focuses on free-market methods, fewer restrictions on business operations, and property rights. In foreign policy, neoliberalism favors the opening of foreign markets by political means, using economic pressure, diplomacy, and/or military intervention. Opening of markets refers to free trade and an international division of labor. Neoliberalism generally favors multilateral political pressure through international organizations or treaty devices such as the WTO, World Bank and ADB. It promotes reducing the role of national governments to a minimum. Neoliberalism favors privatization over direct government intervention and production (such as Keynesianism), and measures success in overall economic gain. To improve corporate efficiency, it strives to reject or mitigate labor policies such as minimum wage, and collective bargaining rights. It opposes socialism, protectionism, environmentalism, fair trade, and critics say it impedes democratic rule. Likewise, these critics argue that labor rights and social justice should have a priority in international relations and economics.

3. Part of the problem is that "liberalism" has two opposite meanings
In the US we have come to think of liberalism as a tendency towards activism by government and the public sector, as a balance to the totally uncontrolled free-market private sector. So in that sense it is "left" on the ideological spectrum.

However, its classic definition was the opposite, by supporting free markets over the public sector.

That tends to lead to use of the woerd "liberal" in opposite contexts. Today, "neo-liberal" is actually anotehr way of saying "corporate conservative."

11. Stop using the word liberal
This is why people of the American left need to rid themselves of the word liberal. It's simply incorrect and leads to people freaking out and not understanding the terms.

This is why we should all use the word progressive. Not only does it sound better, it is also correct!

Yes the Medial is liberal. It wants to further the right wing Capitalist agenda.

6. the meaning of Liberal is to work for change through the democratic system
for the 'common' good.. my impression of what neoliberal is is another redefinition from the Reich wing to blame everything on the liberals. the explanation of neoliberal they used was obviously NeoCon, which are not liberals, they have no intension of doing anything through the democratic process nor for the common good.

things fell apart in NOLA because the administration called for a 4 day seminar on emergency response because no one had been trained... They were in Charge and did nothing and prevented those that would it to keep them from making the administration from looking bad. i really object to any blame of the party hamstrung from doing anything.. our government has been taken over my the Reich wing.. not liberals, i dont see any neo..'new' liberals. just what they have tried to redefine to demonize and slander

i will check further into it, i am moving and dont have a lot of time for a while.

8. the difference is in the echonomic aspect.,i still thind Fascist is better
word.. it isnt new.. it is just taken over by the fascists..not new/same old shit, there is no such thing as free trade.. perhaps a goal would be 'fair trade'.. but there is no free trade nor will there ever be any in Samsara.

i still think neoliberal is just fascism and has nothing to do with any previous clasical defination. Globalism is just Popys New World Order.. which does not include the middle class it is just a plutocracy.

4. The weekly magazine?
I just began a subscription, only gotten one copy so far. I like that they don't seem beholden to big advertising, which I translate as more believable.
On their track record of fitting a definition of "progressive" I cannot speak yet, but I already like what I'm seeing.

5. It's got a pretty good progressive track record.
I let my subscription lapse and have been meaning to take out another one.

Being a weekly, though, it was difficult for me to keep on top of reading it.

10. I'll have a look.
Reading The Nation and The New Yorker (pleasantly) consumes a lot of my long subway ride to work already, but I'll check The Progressive too.

Just for the record, I was not complaining in my reply to the OP.
