4. Only one problem
In an open vehicle, on a race track, testing acceleration, the driver WAS NOT WEARING SAFETY GEAR. Not so much as a helmet.

5. This is the electric car I want:

I once heard someone say that electric cars looked like they were designed by people who hate cars. This one sure wasn't.

6. Not A Valid Test, Though Fun To Watch Anyway.

Totally apples to oranges comparison. If you had a frame only car with the Porsche or Ferrari engines in it I'd wager they'd perform better as well. You can't take a non-streetlegal-barebones frame with an engine and put it up against production cars, and expect me to actually give any validity to the race. It obviously is an incomparable situation and not really worth anything on a real analytical front. But having that said, it was definitely still really cool to watch.

9. Actually, it validates a couple of things....
Electric is no longer relegated to low-performance, golf cart applications. Certainly, HP/weight ratio's apply here, but unless this was staged, it is pretty damn impressive. The technology exists to make safe, cost effective transportation systems that exploit existing battery designs. The savings in gas/smog would be significant and a retooling of our infrastructure to exploit this would prime the national economic pump.

11. It's still all about power to weight, you just can't get away from the
physics of it. The electric car is/was half the weight of the other two.

By the same measure, a straight-off-the-showroom, completely stock, crotch rocket from Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki will blow the electric car away in the same race every time. The bikes cost <1/10th, and weigh <1/2 as much.

I like the styling of the Tesla much better.

7. Is electric racing far off?
Seems like a great way to advance the technology. This is an eyeopener and something I've been thinking about for awhile.

Can you imagine the racetrack? The only change is they'd have to play a live soundtrack of a NASCAR race to provide the right ambience. :-)
