American Indian people mark 500 years of terrorism.
Terrorism is nothing new to the Indigenous people of this land.

1. Great post

of course many have forgotten that today marks 100 years since Gandhi started his movement. Will Pitt had a thread on this last week. It is also the anniversary of the American financed overthrow and murder of Allende in Chile. Kissinger is still walking free.

Edit add.

After Sand Creek, soldiers visited "a theatrical performance in an opera house in Denver, and there brandishing some fifty of the freshly taken scalps. It is doubtful if a like reversion to barbarism can be found in the history of the last few centuries."
The genteel and cultured citizens of Denver cheered, and clapped at the Shock and Awe of it all. We have not come very far.

4. Kick and Recommend. Excellent post.
Though it's millions of Native Americans, not Thousands, that were killed by European invaders and colonists. I suspect the author may have deliberately downplayed the number in order to prevent a defensive reaction among readers.

5. K&R.
"When human beings can be labeled as less than human their deaths become meaningless. This is the apparent belief of the terrorists and the early settlers. By portraying all Indians as murdering savages, rapists, kidnappers and worse, the national media of the day laid the groundwork for Wounded Knee."

and give them warning.

"The white man will fleece you, and then he will slaughter you."

I wonder what this world would look like if the Natives had beaten back the invaders of their homeland. I wonder what the world would look like if all the various Native nations had united.

I suspect it would look vastly different from what it does today... and probably, better as well.

Of course, that would mean I and most of the people I come into contact with would never have been born, but since we're talking about a different timeline altogether, I'm not too terribly concerned about bringing it up.
