Zogby: 65% of GOP still believes Saddam/9-11 connection
The Zogby America telephone poll of 1,014 likely voters conducted over Labor Day weekend finds members of the two parties diametrically opposed on key issues, while independents line up more closely to Democratic viewpoints.

In one key measurement in the survey, a 58% majority says the Iraq War has not been worth the loss of American lives, while 36% say it has. But the partisan breakdown shows a very different story. Among Republicans, 58% say the war has been worth the cost in lives, while among Democrats, just 20% hold this view—a number that improves to 28% among independents.

Also note that 65% of Republicans believe there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and the 9-11 attacks. How in the world do you reason with people who are so impervious to reality?

2. This is the equivalent of the one third of the population with an
Authoritarian bent who will continue to shock their fellow human beings as in the Stanley Milgram experiment (Stanley Milgram's 37)

"""We Do What We're Told (Milgram's 37)" is a Peter Gabriel song found on his 1986 album So. The title refers to the 37 out of 40 participants who showed complete obedience in Experiment 18.""

14. The import of that study cannot be overstated.
Authoritarianism pervades our culture. It's like we're a huge lynch mob, willing to go along and keep step for FEAR of being regarded as an 'outsider' or 'enemy.' As a kid, I never went to the same grade school for more than two years. I was the "new kid" and, as the only constant, kept up with my coursework. Every time I changed schools (about 7 times), I found I was out-of-step in the classes ... ahead in much of it and having some clear gaps. Once I caught up with the gaps (just a matter of weeks), I became the 'egghead.' One thing about changing schools: 'learning' becomes a lifestyle. Learning about the new neighborhood, learning new names, learning the local fashions and fads ... it was constant.

So was being picked on. I'd invariably become the target of the local mini-sociopaths. From 4th grade onwards, I had no father at home - no "my dad can beat up your dad" defense. An 'only child,' there was no big brother or other intimidating force. Perfect target. I learned. A lot.

The Milgram Experiments and the Stanford Jail Study offer keen insights to human behavior - behavior I've seen my entire life. (I don't pretend to be immune, either.)

5. How many times do the GOP have to be told
that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11? Their president said it loud and clear. The bipartisan senate intelligence committee said it loud and clear. Are they so thick headed that you need a two by four to pound in the message?

8. Wow. 35% Of Them Were THAT Stupid To Not Think So???
That's what I find shocking.

I mean, after all, it's not like the 35% didn't think so due to intelligent reasons, since that's an oxymoron within itself, so the only other explanation must be that they were actually soooooo stupid that their eensy weensy brains couldn't even handle the brainwashing programming the first time around...

10. Sounds Like "Stockholm Syndrome"
The only realistic way anybody can support the war in Iraq is to rationalize a connection to 9/11, after all America is not a country to invade another without a direct threat to our very existence. To give up on that connection requires a lot of people to admit that they were wrong, never mind that their political hero duped them and continues to brainwash them. The psychic of a lot of people will not permit them to give up their security blanket, even when presented by overwhelming evidence. A lot of German people bought into the notion that they had a Jew problem. When confronted with the horror of that "solution" they still supported the notion of a Jew problem and the leader who duped them.
