The DU Admins were so blown away by Keith Olbermann's watershed commentary last night (Sept. 11, 2006) that we're encouraging our members to spread the word.

This morning, The Nation called Keith Olbermann "without a doubt the best news anchor on television today." We agree. Video of his commentary is available at the link below. Please email it to your friends, family, co-workers, elected representatives, and anyone else who you think needs to see it. Keith's commentary deserves a wide audience.

Committee Chair (who still owes me for all the miles I walked for him in past elections) and told him when the Democrats stand and deliver as Olbermann has, I will go back and work for them again. I resigned as a committee person after the War on Iraq started, as the spineless Democratic Officials were willing dupes, and I could no longer stomach their appeasement.

I want to be PROUD to be a Democrat again. Please give me a Democratic leader with the qualities of Keith Olbermann and I will walk my legs off to get him/her elected. If the masses need some guy's opinion to get them fired up to make a change, then I'd say the battle's already lost. Politics should be about reason, not emotion. The facts speak for themselves. It's bullshit like this opinion piece that just keeps perpetuating this ridiculous situation the US is currently in. It's not even about politics any more, but "them" vs "us", a situation born ENTIRELY from pieces like this, seemingly from the heart, which uses emotive language to get the desired reaction.

If we kept with the facts, and the facts alone, victory would be so much easier.

by watching television. I'm not sure anyone on this board needed a commentary to get them "fired up", but it sure as hell was nice to hear someone speak out on a news program about the facts. And to do it so eloquently, and so heartfelt. Few are brave enough to do their jobs on news programs these days. When you find someone who is, like Keith Olbermann, I don't know about you, but I treasure it. Courage and honesty is so rare today amongst news commentators.

His opinion, unlike that of many commentators, was full of facts. He needs to be cloned, then perhaps people COULD keep up with the facts.

I was so blown away from Keith's statements, finally someone who expressed the same emotions I have over the topic in such a well worded and throughout commentary. This should be broadcasted to every american , I would love to see the look on georgie boys face when (and if) he saw it. Mad props to Keith, my new hero

but this was his best. It was so inpiring. I read that people had tears in thier eyes. I emailed him. I do hope MSNBC appreciates the impact he has and sees that Keith is amazing. Maybe the others there will pause and think and decide to be real journalists too.

As of this morning (13 Sep) the "youtube" link shows that there have been only 20611 views of the video.

As I do not watch TV, I had never heard of Mr Olbermann until this. It is even unclear to me if "MSNBC" is the network that used to be "NBC" - however if this presentation was actually nationally broadcast, then that is very good.

Log onto the "youtube" link and watch it.

It may well be too late for any voice of reason, but this is mildly – mildly - hopeful.

I sent the link to a few people yesterday. One of them is an old friend who is a decent but somewhat misguided individual who has called himself a "conservative" ever since he lucked out seven years ago and landed his first high paying job. Funny how instant money can cause some to suddenly pledge allegiance to the party of the "haves and have mores".

He and I grew up in NJ, in the shadow of the Towers that once were. We went on a class trip to the WTC many years ago back in third grade and had visited it numerous times in our lives since then. It was a usual pit stop whenever we would "go into the city" in our raucous teenage and college years, so the Towers held a special place in both our hearts. After 9/11 we each drifted further from our centrist political views; he to the right and me to the left. We enjoyed our political debates for a while and then things began to change.

Ever since pResident cuckoo bananas (credit to David Letterman for that one) invaded Iraq, the political debates I have had with my old friend have escalated to heated arguments with each of us questioning the other's intelligence and him questioning my patriotism. I have had to struggle to maintain our friendship as I had lost so much respect for him due to his ignorant allegiance to the rethuglican party, his unexplainable support of * and his crusading in the Middle East, and his view that anyone who opposes the approach of this administration is un-American.

Yesterday things changed. We had not spoken in a few months as had become the norm. Our conversations always turned to politics and always ended the same way, so the effort to pick up a phone hardly seemed worthwhile anymore. When I watched Keith's commentary and stared into the hole behind him, I knew that my friend Lou had to see it too. Yesterday, as soon as I had a link to the piece, I called and asked him to watch KO's Hole in the Ground commentary as I had just emailed him the link. He often resisted reading or watching any of the "liberal lies" I had sent him in the past just as I would not follow his leads to the hatred and vitriol being spouted on the freeper sites he religously followed. I simply told him that this piece was a memorial to the WTC and that I thought of him and the friendship we shared when I saw it. I asked him to call me back if he felt the commentary was in any way important to him. My phone rang about 15 minutes later and the Lou on the other end of the line was very different than the one I had begun to dislike over the last few years. Keith's words had struck a chord, that deeply hidden chord within him that had become buried under layers of fear and confusion created so effectively by the current administration. He said he suddenly felt ashamed but didn't know why. He was also angry that I sent it to him but not for the usual reasons and not AT me. He was angry at * for using 9/11 and the Hole in the Ground only for political purposes and at himself for not seeing what has happened since 9/11. He said that he now believes * wants the Hole to remain so he can keep going there to stand in it and make speeches. A new building or a memorial wouldn't generate as much fear as a gaping hole. Our conversation was brief yesterday morning. He was obviously shaken and moved by what he had just watched. I felt kind of bad for him because he sounded a little like a child who just learned that Santa isn't real. He said he wasn't so sure about a number of things anymore and that he needed to do some thinking. I sent him links to KO's other most recent commentaries (Rummy and the first *Bush skewering)and the link to DU. I invited him to call me at home later that night. When he called last night we spoke for three hours, revisiting old arguments we had over the last three years. He listened to me for the first time in a long time and I think he has seen the light. He was reading some postings on DU to me and said he couldn't believe how many people there were who had been "right about things all along" and that he never knew they were out there. I now know the feeling of a victory in this long battle, however small. I also have my old friend back.

Thank you Keith Olberman for providing us with a tool to help move minds and heal wounds. Thank you DU for giving us a place to rally and find inspiration. We will prevail even if it has to be one person at a time.

CBS puts Limbaugh and Giuliani on television to spit out the usual pablum of this administrations idiotic talking points.

MSNBC manages to put up somone that actually tries to live up to the journalistic tradition of Edward R Murrow and after watching his televised commentary I would have to say he succeeded.

Yesterday I decided to google " Thank You Keith Olbermann" just to see if someone had put up a site similar to the one that sprang up for Colbert this past summer.

To my surprise, there was nothing.....

There is now. We know that the noise machine will be coming after him even harder now that he's stepped up. And for all we know the messages to MSNBC on his behalf may go directly into the worlds biggest e-mail trash can. But TYKO is out on the web for all to see.
