Karen Hughes, undersec'y for public diplomacy, bitches at world:

State's Hughes Calls for a United World To Condemn Terror

USA Today op-ed on the international response to terrorism: "Where's the Outrage?"
by Karen Hughes

Five years after the Sept. 11 attacks, one essential ingredient is still lacking in our international response to terrorism: the concerted moral outrage of everyday citizens of every faith and country...

This is not right, or normal, or acceptable, and a much louder chorus of voices needs to join in condemning it. Terrorism threatens all of us. It targets the very foundations of a free society. Yet where are the mothers organizing against terrorism as American mothers did against drunken driving? Where are the fathers promising to teach their sons to choose to live rather than choose to die? Where are the religious clerics and congregations of all faiths arguing that no just and loving God would call on young men and women to kill themselves and others in the name of religion?

To be fair, many voices, Western and Eastern, Islamic and Christian, have spoken out against the violence. Yet the criticism seems oddly muted. Offensive cartoons sparked massive protests in nations across the Islamic world. The international outcry was immediate when civilians were killed in the recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Yet we have seen no similar mass condemnation of terrorist violence and murder, and no hint of remorse from those engaged in these acts. As I have traveled the world, I have met those who try to justify the violence based on policy differences, long-held grievances or a perceived threat from the West....

1. We bombed and killed them and their families

that's where they are Karen.

We unilaterally invaded a country under false pretenses, and killed their relatives.

They have turned their outrage against us and our failed foreign policies.

3. For the love of God. This reads like a post on a rightwing bulletin board.
"Where's the outrage from moderate Muslims?"
"Where's the media coverage?"
"Where's my new car?"

Total crap.

9. Where was our outrage over
Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Somalia, the Balkans, Cambodia, Rawanda, Darfur, Sierra Leon, Timor? I don't recall many mass protests in the streets of America over those little altercations. Why does Hughes expect the rest of the world to be indignant over what happened to us when we manifestly don't give two shits about what happens to them.

Michigan man accused of ramming car into women's clinic in Iowa

9/12/2006, 11:21 a.m. ET
The Associated Press
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A man accused of ramming his car into a women's clinic and then setting his car on fire thought it was an abortion clinic, police said Tuesday.

"He was using his car to torch the building," Davenport police Detective Mike Bowers said.

David Robert McMenemy, 45, of Sterling Heights, Mich., is charged with second-degree arson. He's accused of driving his car into the Edgerton Women's Health Center about 4:30 a.m. on Monday. The center does not perform abortions and does not provide abortion referrals, said Tom Fedje, the president of the clinic. He said the clinic does advise pregnant women on the various options available to them. Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa is monitoring the incident, spokeswoman Kathi Di Nicola said.

"He drove into the clinic and set his car on fire using an accelerant. He knew what he was doing. He planned it. It wasn't an accident," Bowers said.

Sad, and ironic.

Perhaps now they'll start to have second thoughts about the kind of whackjob goons their "cause" is bringing on board.

My point was only that it was terrorism done by someone who, I suspect, thought he was targeting planned parenthood instead. Doh.

It's also worth remembering that Karen Hughes called 1.2 Million Pro-Choice Americans who marched on DC in 2004 (your humble poster being among them) "Terrorists".

16. Utter poppycock! The worldwide condemnation of terrorism --
at least by non-terrorists -- is nearly universal.

This twit has the tinniest of tin ears and has such a narrow view of "normality" that she has no credibility in judging any culture outside the cul-de-sac she lives on. She apparently absorbed NOTHING on her trips outside of the US.

Perhaps people don't go to anti-terrorist rallies because they realize that terrorism is a tactic and not an identifiable enemy (an enemy, as a matter of fact, that her boss has promised to whup as long as the rest of us keep shopping).

The comparison to MADD is particularly fatuous.

21. Karen Hughes is the Under-Secretary of the Department of
Superfluous Nonsense.

As far as I can tell she adds absolutely nothing to public discourse on any subject.

I doubt if she could run a 7-11 store.

What Harriet Miers would have been to the Bench, Karen Hughes is to public relation and diplomacy.

This administration is the pits.

22. Well, lets see, Karen- since you called 1.2 Million Pro-Choice Marchers
in DC "Terrorists", maybe you muddied the fucking waters somewhat- particularly since the majority of Americans are pro-choice.

So according to you, by default, the majority of Americans are terrorists.

Why do you hate America, Karen?
