Bush, here's the man our soldiers are fighting and dying for
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 04:20 PM by bigtree

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, right, shakes hands with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, duing an official welcoming ceremony for him, in Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006. Iraq's prime minister received a red-carpet welcome at the Iran's presidential palace on Tuesday at the start of his first official visit to the Shiite Muslim country since taking office in May, state-run television reported. Explain this, you dim-witted twit.

2. hey, TALKING to iran can't hurt
i do not subscribe to the 'we don't negotiate with terrorists' canard. in fact, we should negotiate with every single 'axis of evil' member/terrorist until they're so tired of seeing us they give in just to get some sleep.

still, ahmenidijad is a idiotic provincial rube of an iranian president. he told kofi annan that in ww3, iran would win.

4. I don't care if they talk.
how does this fit in with the blather Bush has been spouting about Iran being threat #1?

how does he justify our soldiers fighting and dying for a man who openly communes with the head of a government that Bush has told Americans is such a threat to us?

Is it a negotiation or is it a buddy up?

3. Iraq's new best friend Iran
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 04:23 PM by Botany
So we have created a Shi ite theocracy over much of Iraq which will be anti
western and use it's oil to fund radical Islam, right?

And our good friend and Iranian spy Chalibi helped in this outcome.

6. is Maliki there in support of our interests (as defined by Bush)?
or, is he undermining them?

If he's undermining our interests by forging some alliance with Iran without addressing any of the issues Bush has been saying are so crucial, the why is Bush tolerating our forces fighting and dying to keep him in power?

It demands an answer.

9. this is about Bush's logic and the rationale behind his Mideast 'strategy'
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 04:44 PM by bigtree
Iran=evil axis

How do THEY justify this? We may be able to rationalize it. But the right-wing has been bleating that Iran is such a threat they need to be nuked. Is Maliki there on Bush's behalf, or is he forging his own alliance, unconcerned with the determination of our own govt. that Iran is the nation's #1 threat?

What's THEIR excuse for this? If we followed their logic, this is a defection, an alliance with our 'enemy'. That's the level of the rhetoric that's come from the right about the Iranian president.

What's THEIR excuse??!!

the lies that started this whole mess. I truly believe that in W's brain, 130,000 troops in iraq are not there to protect, create, support or work with any arab government, democratic or otherwise.

They serve the purpose of guarding oil wells and pipelines as long as possible and if iran moves on israel they will have to cross iraq with our troops too spread out with worn out equipment to protect themselves. They will be sacrificed as a trip wire to expand his goals, limited nukes, chem, bio to hold of the hoards while we rebuild our troops with a draft, then finish the job.

edit to include: That job consists of takeing all the damn oil, reestabling greater israel, and start rebuilding on the temple mount so jasus will come again.

11. 'Occupiers’ should leave, Iran tells Iraqi PM
'Occupiers’ should leave, Iran tells Iraqi PM
(AFP)

13 September 2006

TEHERAN - Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday reaffirmed his call for US-led coalition forces to pull out of neighboring Iraq, in talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki.

‘Iraq’s problems will be solved if the occupiers leave, so we hope that the occupiers pull out,’ state television quoted Khamenei as telling Maliki, who is on the final day of his first official visit to Iran.

‘We hope the Iraqi nation reaches its deserved position and its resources serve the Iraqi people when the foreigners’ hand is cut off,’ Khamenei said, referring to the eventual departure of foreign troops.

Iran on Tuesday pledged full support in restoring security to insurgency-plagued Iraq, where the United States accuses Shia-majority Iran of being ‘part of the problem’ and fueling sectarian violence.

The two countries waged a war between 1980 and 1988 but ties have warmed considerably since Saddam Hussein’s fall, with Iran becoming a close ally of the Shia-led Iraqi government.

13. it just shows the idiocy of Bush and the neonuts
they thought they would create some new kind of Shia community that would be a replacement for the Iran regime. Sistani was probably their choice to replace the Iranian president after they got the govt. overthrown. I think Sistani believed it too. The idiocy is that they couldn't see that their attacks against the Shia and others after they came to the polls would cause these same folks to resist the govt. they voted for. They still think that THEY can create useful coalitions that would be compliant to our interests there. But, they don't have a clue WHO they're attacking along with the Iraqi forces.

Maliki knows. He's just moving on, doing what comes naturally to him. If this was Clinton propping up this guy the right would go ballistic. Likely our side will let them duck this because it really doesn't matter to us at all that Iraq and Iran are settling their feud, it's probably a good thing in the long run. But, the neonuts who have been justifying all of the expenditures: the 20 million for Iran regime change with Elizabeth Cheney heading the effort, the missile defense systems we are begging Central Europe to take to counter the threat Bush claims from Iran, the new generation of nuclear bunker-busters to get at the unseen/unproven Iranian 'weapons labs' contrived by Bush.

Yet, they will sit silently by as the man our soldiers are fighting and dying to defend communes and unites with the leader of the main spokes of Bush's axis of evil?

They should be shouted down with questions about this.

15. Here is Juan Cole on the subject...
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad had something of a lovefest at their press conference on Tuesday. Ahmadinejad expressed his complete support for the Iraqi parliament, political process and government. The Iranians always sound just like the Bush administration when they talk about political progress in Iraq. Ahmadinejad also offered help with security affairs.

Al-Maliki declined to associate himself with American charges that Iran is fomenting turmoil in Iraq, saying that there were no obstacles to security cooperation between the two countries.

Iran and Iraq will cooperate in pumping petroleum from oil fields traversed by their common border, and in its refining. One such project could be online within a year. These fields are far from the Sunni Arab areas, and Iran would help with security, so that they could help the government escape the economic blockade the guerrilla movement has placed on the northern Kirkuk fields, which generally cannot export through Turkey because of pipeline sabotage.

20. Another thought on this
It must confound the neoconservatives that their Iraqi PM is meeting with the president of a nation that they insist is responsible for the insurgency in Iraq.

Of course, the neoconservatives never let the facts get in the way of a good case to go to war against an oil rich Middle Eastern state.
