So Tweety just said he voted in the MD Democratic primary & for MFUME

The guest, Democratic candidate for (U.S. Representative?) was VERY impressive. I'll have to look up her name. She was totally self-possessed, easily caught all the curveballs Tweety tossed about: "Other Dems voted for the Iraq resolution, why is he different? What is the Dem position on Iraq, I don't know of one. Are you saying he's in the tank, has been bought? Rep. FORD in TN voted for the Iraq resolution." She said she's in MD, not TN, that her opponent consistently votes against the interests of her district.

But wow, Tweety voted for a DEM!!!1 Does MD allow crossover voting? He also said that the absentee voting there was screwed up AGAIN and that "something is happening (wrong)" with the election screw-ups.

both machines at the registration desk went down, when I went to get my plastic card, the machine
said I already voted which I had not, so they are going to let me vote and then send my vote
back with a sheet to indicate that I only voted once.

Let's say if you were designing a voting system based on any available database app, or designing one from scratch, good engineering practice would dictate that each record would be immediately preserved in some non-volatile format. That's common sense -- if you have no ulterior motive. Bank transactions, sales transactions, I mean anything, is done that way.

That is not the case if somebody is out to screw us.:) Since these voting systems are proprietary and secret, then all sorts of shenanigans, beyond the storage problem, are possible. I'm just saying that a power outage shouldn't cause a data loss beyond the current record.
