At this point, it isn't even clear what the mission is.
Groups loosely affiliated with al Qaeda make up a very small (less than 5%) segment of those doing the killing there. So, the "front line in the war on terror" thing is crap. It's a three-way civil war now and we have not declared which side we are on and who we want to win.
And, oh yes... while Saddam was a world-class psychopath, he at least wasn't trying to create an Islamic republic and wasn't cozy with Iran (both can be said about the government there now). We also know now also saw al Qaeda as a threat.
And don't get me started on Afghanistan. That is a total mess... a largely lawless narco-state. And Bush refuses to even send enough troops to prop up the "government" we have installed.
Does anyone really think any of that is good news for American security?
We should have done the job in Afghanistan properly. And we never should have invaded Iraq.
Just sayin'
