Commission Finds President George W. Bush and His Administration Guilty of War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity

I can't stay (mom has doctor appt.), but will be back later. Just wanted to make sure everyone saw this asap.

Enjoy!

http://www.bushcommission.org/?q=node/50

An unprecedented Commission of Inquiry has found the President of the United States and his administration guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The five-member panel of jurists unanimously found the administration’s actions “shock the conscience of humanity” in five areas – wars of aggression, illegal detention and torture, suppression of science and catastrophic policies on global warming, potentially genocidal abstinence-only policies imposed on HIV/AIDS prevention programs in the Third World, and the abandonment of New Orleans before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina.

A delegation, headed by 27-year CIA veteran Ray McGovern and former US diplomat and retired US Army Reserve Colonel Ann Wright, will deliver the verdict to the gates of the White House at noon today following an 11AM press conference.

THE VERDICT

In their summary, the Commission jurists found that: “Each of these constitutes a shocking crime in itself, and taken together the full horrors are all the more unconscionable. It is also clear that this is an administration that demonstrates an utter disregard for truth and flagrantly lies about the reasons for its actions.

"In arriving at this decision the jurists were particularly alarmed by the degree to which the Bush Administration’s actions in all five indictments were informed by the extreme right. .... although the specific conduct differs among the indictments, the result is the same: human life was debased and devalued by gratuitous acts of violence, torture, narrow self interest, indifference, and disregard."

3. Froom Howard Ziinn, same link:
In a preface to the printed verdict, historian Howard Zinn writes: "The Bush Administration has been following a course, which can only now be described as a series of crimes against humanity. . . . What could be a higher crime than sending the young people of the country into a war against a small country on the other side of the world, which is no danger to the United States, and in fact a war which is condemned by people all over the world and a war which results in, not only the loss of American lives and the crippling of young Americans, but results in the loss of huge numbers of people in Iraq? These are high crimes."
:wow: So when will the media whores report on this?

6. Impeachment will just be a start. I want back all the money the neo-cons
collected through their business connections during this time of chaos. Halliburton, of course, would be tops on the list.

5. Another
pompous and self-important collection of buffoons trivialize the rule of law, an impartial judiciary, and the enormity of Bush's crimes.

An unprecedented Commission of Inquiry has found the President of the United States and his administration guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. There is nothing unprecedented about this. I can remember them happening as far back as the 60s, and heck, they may go back further.

Not that I don't agree with them, I do. But they have no more legal or moral authority than anybody else. I even agree with what they are trying to do, publicize Bush's crimes. But to set themselves up as an impartial panel whose opinions carry any weight is the height of hypocrisy, IMO. And if they are not impartial, why should anybody care what they think, or say, about an issue.

I think a better, more effective, idea would be just to put the facts out there for the public to see, and let them draw their own conclusions. Or put there opinions out there as opinions and back them up with the facts. This is empty moralizing, and even when it is correct, it is offensive, or such are my personal feelings.

10. I agree, this sounds like grandstanding in the first degree
Four of the five "charges" are right on target, but one is WAY over the top:

"potentially genocidal abstinence-only policies imposed on HIV/AIDS prevention programs in the Third World..."

Abstinence programs are "Genocidal"? That's ludicrous.

18. No....read it again..
It's not abstinence programs that are genocidal, but the effect of abstinence programs in this particular case. Note, they appended "potentially".

There's a bit of hyperbole, here, but not much. The effect of HIV/AIDS in the third world is devastating.

I wonder why people are nit-picking this event. We (liberals, Democrats, people of conscience) have no voice. Nevertheless, we should continue to speak out at every opportunity.

22. I would think
that genocide would require a little more active effort than advocating such a policy.

Granting that they policy is probably not the best, the advocates of it almost certainly think that it is the best policy for controlling AIDS/HIV, and probably do not have any malice towards the mass of sufferers in the third world. Are mistakes genocide? I would hope not, as the left itself has made some mistakes over the decades that have cost many lives. Support of Stalin and Mao spring to mind. But it was a mistake, not a deliberate plan to murder millions.

14. Things Like This Serve No More Purpose Than To Open Ourselves To Mockery
Though idealistically I agree with them and do believe he has committed such atrocities, the tone of that website, as if this has any legal or impartial bearing, is just disturbing to me and would be a source of mockery to others. I say this with no ill will or provocation, it is just merely the reaction I had to it. It is almost as if they are kids playing house, but instead playing judge and jury. I respect them wanting to get a point across, but what bothered me is that the way the site was set up was as if they truly believe that this bears some weight or that their exercise carries any legitimacy. Problem with that is that the majority of normal people I know, regardless of political affiliation, would find this to be deluded.

Put it this way, it isn't exactly a link I'd send around at work, even to the hard core * haters. I would be embarrassed to do so because I know what they'd think about it.

I know they meant well, but this is just silly to me.

15. Otay... (I had no idea they were like that, sorry.)
I thought they were kind of "legit" so, my bad.

Still, I agree with this accusation: "George W. Bush and His Administration Guilty of War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity" resulting in "human life was debased and devalued by gratuitous acts of violence, torture, narrow self interest, indifference, and disregard."

The Hague Awaits.

24. You've got a point. However,
I like to say that while we really shouldn't, and don't, care for the opinion of the fascists, the undecided voter is a different story. No matter how serious the issues that we bring to the table, if they have no respect for us because we are mockable, our ideas will not receive a fair hearing. At least that's how I perceive it.

23. You said it better
than I was able to. Somehow, when people act pompously and, I hate to say it, self-righteously, other people, whose minds are not already made up, tend to tune them out.
